Michigan Men's Basketball: AKA the Michigan revenue sport that doesn't have an uber jaded fanbase waiting in the dark for failure.

I saw that yesterday and couldn’t find details of how the play-in round would work. If it just means eight more bubble teams get in, and they have to play against the other 8 at large teams that were on the 9-11 seed line, then whatever. Even better, get rid of the play-in round for those two 16 seed spots.

76 teams. 24 at-large in the play-in. 52 byes. 13 seed lines with a bye. Three seed lines for bubble teams needing a play-in round. Protect seeds 1-8 and 12-16, with seeds 9-11 being the play-in teams. Seeds 12-16 can simply go to the 20 lowest ranked auto-bids.

The at-large vs AQ line usually falls right at 11/12 line.

Duke just signed a deal with Amazon Prime Video.  They will broadcast three of Duke's non-conference games this coming year.

UConn in DC

Michigan at the Garden

Gonzaga at LCA

Michigan in NYC and Gonzaga in Detroit is odd, but whatever.

Where is the demand for Duke vs. Gonzaga in Downtown Detroit.  Who’s going to go to that.  Seems like a terrible idea.

I’m still unsure where Gonzaga is located. It’s clearly on the East Coast and has Catholic school pattern of punching above its weight.

Spokane, Washington.   A mere 2000 miles away from LCA.

East coast if you consider the Cascade Mountains as the continental divide and the Spokane River like an ocean.

Can we please fire Warde Manuel already. How many times does bad **** need to happen in this athletic department before someone at the university realizes the common denominator in all of their problems?

Um, what?

On the positive side, at least he's going to the NBA so Michigan doesn't have to worry about the kids following May to another team.

Hiring May was supposed to be his saving grace. He's now twice publicly stated he's going to extend a coach after a national championship only to watch them promptly peace out, leaving him and the program with egg on its face. Worse, he's set the athletics programs backwards in effectively every single mainstream sport.

Football: He inherited a gift horse in Harbaugh, then botched the Harbaugh investigations, then botched the Harbaugh exodus, took the easy road out hiring Moore, and then botched the fiasco that Moore brought with him. Lest we forget Matt Weiss and Shemy Schembechler. Any future stability brought by Whittingham will be despite Warde Manuel.

Basketball: Hired Juwan Howard on a limb, then botched the fiasco that Howard brought with him. Lest we forget Zavier Simpson. Dusty wins a natty despite Warde Manuel, then promptly exits stage left.

Hockey: Botched the entire hockey program fiasco and Pearson's firing.

Baseball: Inherited a gift horse in Erik Bakich. Botched his CWS success, watched him leave, and has overseen the baseball program promptly return to medicority.

Throw in his botched handling of the Dr. Anderson allegations while we are at it.

What are we doing here???

You can't stop a guy like Harbaugh or May from leaving for the pros if that's what they want to do. But you can choose to not put your foot in your mouth before they do it. Moreover, at what point does moving crisis to crisis stop becoming about a bunch of individual bad actors and start becoming an institutional problem? And at what point does that institutional problem fall at the feet of its leader? Warde has been at Michigan for over ten years!

John Bacon made a point on Twitter about two months ago that Michigan could have just fired Warde and paid his buyout for less than the cost of this Jenner & Block internal investigation. Why do we need to be told by lawyers in white shoes what is painfully obvious to anyone?? It's long overdue to clean house. Warde never should have been extended and that mistake needs to be acknowledged, even at the expense of the taxpayer and public fund.

first, test nate oates' loyalty to bama.  i know he just signed a new deal, but its always  been rumored he wanted the michigan job (then again, michigan insiders think EVERYONE wants the michigan job).

if not, then test billy donovan.  although i really doubt he wants back into college or else he would have gone to carolina.  actually, i dont want billy donovan.  he's old and he's a pro guy now.  hiring him would be a big splash but ultimately a mistake, imo.

next, try the guy at st louis.  it would be a huge upgrade for him and he'd probably take it.

Dusty accomplished what he came here to do in just two years, and without controversy.   (yet).

Welcome to Ann Arbor, Billy Donovan.

no thanks.

Would you want Beilein if he were willing to return? I know he's in his 70s, but if he's still willing to coach, would you offer him the job?

They're busy hiring the national championship winning offensive coordinator. At least they're giving him an interim title.
