Tigeraholic1 Posted October 24 Author Posted October 24 Can’t compete you must delete: Target said its move weighed on sales, which have fallen for three straight quarters. competition from Walmart, Amazon and Costco have also taken a toll on Target The company’s (TGT) stock has dropped 30% in 2025, putting it among the worst-performing companies in the S&P 500 this year. A Target spokesperson said the company did not lay off employees to cut costs. Instead, it was a step to rewire its organization to make decisions more swiftly. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted October 24 Posted October 24 (edited) Retail shopping decisions/loyalty can be as paper thin as retail margins - as Target has found out the hard way. It's very easy for people to go somewhere else once and then it's an easy habit. Edited October 24 by gehringer_2 Quote

IdahoBert Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I don’t know where to put this so I’m putting it here. I hadn’t been to IHOP in a long time, but apparently the size of a coffee is now the size of an espresso. I don’t know if this is an effect of the tariffs or not. And I don’t know how much more of this “winning” or “getting my country back” I can take. But at least the coffee plantations in the upper peninsula that have been undercut by “cheap foreign coffee“ will be able to rise from the ruins and back to the greatness they once knew. Quote

chasfh Posted October 24 Posted October 24 After Trump's hissy fit about Canada yesterday, I am very interested to see how the national anthems go in Toronto tonight. I brought that up to a like-minded friend of mine, and he believes Trump timed his outburst specifically to coincide with the World Series, because my friend had seen the commercial running on DC TV back in April. As far as I can tell, Trump is using the machinery of government to stoke his base, keep them perpetually enraged, get us arguing and fighting among one another, so we stop noticing while he blatantly and openly steals the money we pay in taxes to the treasury. Trump is an agent of chaos and disorder, and the whole world is letting him get away with it. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted October 24 Posted October 24 (edited) Heading out Sunday for a seven day cruise of Canada's Atlantic Provences, particularly New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It should be interesting to see local reactions. I'm sure they'll accept our $$$. My wife has a business acquaintance that own an Island off the NS coast near Sydney. I've heard it's on the market. If I could just find a few dozen well heeled friends to help finance it. Edited October 24 by CMRivdogs 1 Quote

Until Trump came along the US was still going in the same general direction. Now that's all gone. Trump, especially Trump 2.0 has reversed that. To be a conservative/Republican today, if you called yourself one 20 years ago, is a direct contradiction. The party and platform is simply indefensible. Quote

I did a camping trip into the Maritimes a zillion years ago back in my early 20s. Bay of Fundy, Prince Edward Island and part of the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia. I've been wanting to go back ever since. Highlights on this trip include Bay of Fundy, as well as Halifax and Sydney NS. A couple arraigned tours, mostly a few hours walking around the port areas. We do have a trip planned to Fort Louisburg outside Sydney. Part of my interest in historic forts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortress_of_Louisbourg 1 Quote

We did Montreal several years ago, another camping experience, really enjoyed it. This was back in the late 80s. The same with Quebec City. Lots of rain that trip. I remember we saw Ferris Bueller (the movie) one stormy night. It was fun watching the delayed reaction of part of the audience translating jokes from English to French Quote
oblong Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I was in Canada for about 40 minutes on Sunday. Ran over the bridge, up Riverside then back through the tunnel. The boarder guys in Canada are great. They high five you and cheer you on. The people in Windsor are fun too. The border guys in the US are what you'd expect. They look like they hate their jobs and hate you. People were having fun and that's not allowed in the US anymore. 1 Quote
