You can only use crypto for criminal transactions like buying narcotics in traffickable quantiies or artwork stolen from the Louvre. You can only use crypto for criminal transactions like buying narcotics in traffickable quantiies or artwork stolen from the Louvre. For all the claims about its potential to revolutionize commerce and spending, crypto is worthless until you convert back to real money. It's a scam, but a very successful one. There were only ever two justifications for crypto - to hide transactions from legal oversight, and to create a currency 'free' from central bank 'manipulation. Turns out crypto fails on both counts. Forensic accountants have demonstrated that with a little effort, bit-coin transactions can be traced and reconstructed, the 2nd concept was nonsense to begin with. The only value of a fiat currency in the first place (and the reason they have replaced "hard" money like gold) is that some central bank does 'manipulate' it to try and hold its value constant so it can be useful as an exchange medium over reasonable time scale (and not inflate or deflate the economy just because someone opened or closed a mine somewhere.) You can argue central banks don't always do a good job of it, or do it wrong, but the value of a dollar holds well enough for markets to function - this was never going to be true of a cryptocurrency exactly because there is no 'manipulation' for keeping it's value constant - thus it is totally useless as a pricing/exchange medium. As you note - at every moment in time the value of a bit-coin *in dollars* has to be found in order for any transaction to be possible. OTOH, as a 'greater fool' investment scam, it's outperformed anyone's wildest dreams. Edited 22 hours ago by gehringer_2 1 Quote
Tigerbomb13 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Remember when it would be considered a career ender if a politician went on a racist/xenophobic rant against an entire group of people based on the country they are from? Ah, the good old days… 2 Quote

romad1 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago This is cold comfort but heard that the GOP reps and senators who are planning to go after the Admin are asking each other to wait until the filing deadlines for 2026 pass. That still leaves a lot of time for admin to crime. Quote
