chasfh Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago 33 minutes ago, Motown Bombers said: Let's be clear on what's happening here: Donald Trump is President of the United States of America, something which he is 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and from which there is no break. That's just the way the job goes, and nothing he says while president can be regarded as reflecting his personal point of view irrespective of that—and that goes double for when he is speaking from the White House. Therefore, what Trump posted, and what he is saying here, reflects the official position of the United States government on Rob Reiner. Quote

mtutiger Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago "Trump Derangement Syndrome" has been a useful construct for Trump over the years, but the reality is that there are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike Donald Trump (as a leader and as a human being) and the construct is often used in a way to delegitimize any of that criticism or dislike for him in a way that doesn't have to address the substance of it. Same with "Orange Man Bad".... a rhetorically clever but cynical and ultimately meaningless phrase that effectively absolves the user from having to deal with any substance behind whatever criticism is being lodged. The reality is that he's just a bad person and always has been... and we're now seeing an even more unfiltered version of him due to the inevitable loss of control that was always going to happen as he got older. And his critics have always had a better read on things than some would like to admit. 1 1 Quote

Please explain what the **** TDS is and how whatever it might be is bad to the point to warrant it being used as some kind of slur. You are incapable of criticizing the man without some kind of caveat or disclaimer. As if you are afraid of something. What is it? Will you be kicked out of Macomb County? the man is the president and leader of a vicious and killer cult and every bad thing he does needs to be highlighted and spoken about. If that’s TDS then do be it. 1 Quote

If that’s TDS then do be it. TDS is a mindset, it's not one thing. I don't think of it as a slur myself, but I don't use MAGA as a slur either. But I was just in Washington with my BIL who suffers from TDS and he uses MAGA and hicks interchangeably and it's clearly meant as a slur, so I would venture most of you will think of TDS as a slur too. In short, kind of think of it as the opposite of MAGA, whom think Trump can do no wrong and anyone that doesn't support them is harmful to their definition of 'common sense' for the country. As a whole I tend to think one is worse than the other in terms of numbers and you wouldn't believe me if I told you which side I thought was worse anyway, but I do think both sides (just me both sidesin' again) has a decent chunk of folks that fall into these terms. Ironically, you happened to point out the hypocrisy I see with TDS folks where they are able to see that with MAGA folks, but fail to realize when they are doing it as well. I'm generally incapable of criticizing anyone without some kind of caveat or disclaimer. People are complicated and I like to try and think about how/why they do certain things. He's a complete narcissist, he's greedy, he's unpresidential, and IMO he should be in jail for 1/6 and possibly some other things (1 of which he was found civilly liable for). I think I have made it quite clear he's a horrible person. I have never voted for him and I won't even vote for people in his party unless it's for local positions AND they don't openly endorse Trump. Yet I point out something fishy with some donations with an org that fundraises for democrats and Benson just happened to be the recipient of some of those funds and BOOM - Red lights go up! You have all the ewsieg files stored right up front and ready to go. Did ewsieg actually spend time complaining about a democrat when Trump was president? Check! Did ewsieg actually spend time complaining about a democrat back in 19-23 when Trump wasn't the president? Check!! Why does this ewsieg fool keep on complaining about democrats!!! He must secretly love Trump. Who cares that Whitmer signed a bill that led to the death of a man, why won't ewsieg just point out car insurance rates dropped (and not point out that we're still one of the worst states for car insurance rates and that we now have worse coverage too) And Ewsieg complained about Nessel and Whitmer in 2023 and then mentioned Benson in 2025!!!! The absolute horror!!!! I know why, if ewsieg is wasting his time pointing out something so small like a SOS helping her friend get out of a fraud charges or a disabled man dying because the Gov failed to understand the consequences of what she was signing, it must be he secretly wants Trump to win, because these women bash Trump regularly, so they are the solution, not the problem. Therefore ewsieg must hate women. Especially women that don't like Trump. Bingo! I know you folks blame Tigerholic and Archie for us having to deal with Trump again. I do as well, but I also blame left leaning folks, some on this site, that can no longer view anything with an independent lens. Democrats can't be criticized because IMO, you folks feel any bad press on dems gives Trump and MAGA more ammo. Plus how can someone do something bad if they hate Trump? IMO, some of you guys are the ammo that is all MAGA wants and needs, folks that can't criticize your own side but hyper criticize anything you can tie to Trump. Trump is horrible. I, like many of you, am very concerned that we can recover from him, assuming we even get past him with the same type of government we had for the 200+ years prior. His entire 2nd administration has been fueled by how the media and folks with TDS dealt with him the first time around. Kids in Cages!!!! (Oh never mind, those pics were from when Obama was in office. Maybe we should have just focused on the fact that Trump pursued policies that led to more separation of children from parents than was done under Obama which in itself is very bad? Nah, that's not as catchy as what we ran without knowing the full story first, so let's just keep saying Kids in Cages and hopefully no one will read this fine print ) I don't want to get into naming everything, because there was a tremendous bit of bad things that happened in the first admin and even most of the overhyped issues still weren't good policies even if they were as horrible as they were made out as. But because of the hypersensitized overreaction on every subject, many folks saw Trump refuse to back down and then noticed some of the article retractions and media frenzy die down. Many interpreted that as Trump must not be as bad as they were being told and some that weren't even traditional republicans beforehand started to fall into his MAGA cult. Fast forward to this 2nd admin and Trump is doing exactly what every non Trump voter feared, he learned from his first term. Now he doesn't need to worry about walking back something he said at a rally or having the White House send some official notice that contradicts what he said earlier. He is simply upping his game and going to the radicalized version of whatever his whim is that day and his MAGA cult expects the media to react harshly. When the media does this, this only validates that they must be right. They didn't get here all on their own though, and while you may not agree, that's (in part) why I feel some of you have TDS and also why it has also hurt our country. That said, I'll take TDS over Trump all day long, just wish we didn't have either. Quote

Indeed, not noblesse oblige, Trump is rather driven by "L'état, c'est moi." The only reason for Trump to hold that Rob Reiner was bad for America in clear contradiction to his significant contribution to American Art and Culture, was simply because he did not support Trump. James Woods' comments about how he fought for him to get the part of Byron de la Beckwith in Ghosts of Mississippi is a good example of this... These guys probably agreed on nothing politically, Woods himself is a massive Trumper nowadays, and yet Reiner was there fighting on his behalf anyway. According to Woods, it came at a low point in his career and he feels that it ultimately saved it. Aside from the pure hatred exhibited by the remarks, tend to think this is part of why the backlash is so intense here. He picked someone with a lot of cultural clout with normal Americans, and he also picked someone with a lot of clout across the political spectrum in Hollywood and in elite media circles. Quote
