15 years ago blue states like California in good faith set up independent redistricting commissions. Not a single red state did. Democrats cannot unilaterally disarm themselves. Republicans have shot down all attempts at nationwide redistricting commissions. Democrats can't stop here. I'm looking at you New York. If Republicans want a ceasefire, than pass a nationwide redistricting bill.

I get what Mister Salad means. We can bemoan having to do it even as we do it, exactly because it's terrible but we can't unilaterally disarm in the face of it.

I'm starting to lean in favor of multi member districts. Over simplified divide the individual states into 3, 4, 5 districts depending on size and then vote multiple members. Much like the college board of trustee elections or Supreme Court elections in Michigan. If a state is divided 60-40 demographically, the reps in that state should probably fall that way as well

It's not going to happen but our current system as it stands sucks

Dems are now leading the Gerrmandering charge. Dems: "We need to stop this Gerrymandrering once we are done changing all the maps in states we control." They are interested, thats for sure.

Democrats have lead the charge and been the only political party leading the charge to have nationwide Gerrymandering reform and have maps that are fairly drawn, more neutral, and nonpartisan in nature. Republicans by in large have not gotten behind any sort of Gerrymandering reforms, nor have they supported the idea that maps should be neutral and not be partisan. In-fact, it has been just the opposite. Trump directed Republicans states to make maps even more partisan this cycle. So one party, Democrats, has been leading efforts and introducing legislation to have congressional and state legislative maps drawn fairly. The other party, Republicans, has opposed almost all efforts at federal and state levels to have fair, nonpartisan maps drawn.

Where does the Federal gov get the authority to pass a redistricting bill? Plus this SC would invalidate it.  I'm afraid the best solution is a Supreme Court that will outlaw both Gerrymanders and overturn CU. The next Dem admin must increase the numbers on the court to make the current Conservative axis irrelevant. It's a terrible solution but probably still better than any other.

Basic game theory. When your opponent won't play fair you may absorb the 1st hit. After that the optimal stratagem is to hammer back harder to show them their decision was counter-productive. It's just being practical.

My point being Tater said the dems were leading the charge to end Gerrymandering by… More Gerrymandering. Also note dead red Indiana chose not to play these reindeer games.
