Good for Deion.   Glad he's in remission.   Good for him to be open about it too.  It might help others face it.

But overall, I have never cared so little about college football in my life.   I don't know if it's because my job keeps me extremely busy (and I am glad about that), or if it's because baseball is so front and center this year, but I really hate the direction college sports have gone.    I used to be against players getting paid, then these conferences in schools started making decisions only for money and I changed on players getting paid, but not millions.  It's just chaos now.  I know it's always been slimy, but now it's so blatantly slimy, but so is everything else these days.      I just can't get excited about it this year and I'm not that sad about it.

I mean,   Go Blue, I guess............

there will probably be a reduction in non-revenue sport scholarships - from the student perspective that could actually change the feel of Athletics on Campus as much as anything. OTOH, as was pointed out by an Atlantic writer, using income generated largely by poor black athletes to give scholarships to mostly upper middle class white swimmers and lacross players is probably not equitable social policy once you realize that that's how the money in the old system was flowing.

It’s not really college football anymore.

Sure, the stadiums are on campuses and the teams are named after universities. But what made college football special were the personal connections and loyalty. “I went to this school and now I’m rooting for my colors — my people — every Saturday.”

These kids are paid millions, “attend” for seven years without actually going to a single real class or attaining a degree, and transfer to four schools in that time.

The identity connection that was present in college football has evaporated and been replaced by the almighty dollar under the guise that these are still student-athletes. At least the NFL doesn’t hide the ball in its goal to make as much money as physically possible.

I'm waiting to see what will happen when some school eventually wants to sell their team.

The Arch Manning hype was just a bit overblown.

Either the OSU defense is improved or yes, the Arch Manning hype is overblown. The kid fumbled the Heisman Trophy today....it's still August...lol

Buckeyes have a tough defense but this kid is just missing throws and looks scared to death with no idea what to do.  Just had a huge third down deep in Buckeye territory and threw the ball at the feet of his open receiver cutting across the field.

Might be a little of both?  There were two young quarterbacks on the field, and lots of talk about defenses being ahead of offenses at this time of the season.  I like defense, so I liked watching it.

Manning just showed highly inaccurate throws. And it didn't look like he could read the OSU defense, coached by Matt Patricia. One ESPN talking head made a good point, Manning looked better running a hurry up offense but Texas didn't stick with it. I like good close games too but I would much prefer watching Ohio State lose. Their fans can/will be insufferable.

Oh, come on, I’m not that insufferable….

I am surprised they didn’t try to get Manning’s mobility into the game a bit more.  Maybe not necessarily as a primary running option, but maybe just moving the pocket around a bit more from side to side.

Perhaps Manning’s media coverage is a bit overblown.  I don’t fault him for that. He’s a sophomore starting the season in Columbus.  That is a bit of a tall task.  To his credit, he did call himself out for not playing well enough.  I suspect he’ll still have a fine season and this will be used as a learning experience.

manning was turfing throws to wide open guys, i'm not so sure that was matt patricia's doing.

good win for the big ten.

Speaking of QB's, I'm surprised that statue of Bo in front of the football bldg didn't melt itself right into a puddle watching a  Michigan coach let a freshman QB in his very first game throw the ball all over the field from all kinds of rolls and sprints. 😂

ricky leach, 2-10 for 30 yards with a td in his first game.  lol.

underwood will have more completions in 3 games than leach had all season.

I had similar thoughts watching OSU and Texas with great defenses and inexperienced QB’s continue to go for it on 4th and 2 inside their own territory.

Well, the Bill Belichick era kicked off in style last night. The “33rd NFL team” got exactly what I had hoped it would get, crushed on national prime time.
