And Kurtz missed a 5th home run by about 2 feet.  He settled for a double.

I believe the same thing happened to Joe Adcock in 1954.

Kurtz is definitely going to be a star.  I would trade Clark, McGonigle, and Rainier for him.

Why can’t we get rookies who perform even within shouting distance of this? The guy was in college 14 months ago.

I heard that drafting HS kids has more upside. I don't get it either but that's the Harris strategy?

Is it? Small sample size and I think circumstances factored in. No college bats this year worthy of our first pick.  And with Clark and McGonigle 1-2 in Law’s recent prospect rankings, seems those choices are working out.

Double A is double A.  It's a big jump up to the majors.

Not for Nick Kurtz, apparently. 😐

He played 5 games in AA in 2024 and decided he had enough of that level.

He hit 7 HRs in AAA in 20 games this year and now he is probably the best 1st baseman in the major leagues.

For every Nick Kurtz there are about 10,000 Jace Jungs.

And plenty of Chris Sheltons’s and Brennan Boesch’s who flame out.

I mean, he was like the best hitter in college for 3 years in a row, but sure...why not make a ridiculous comparison.

He’s the guy we hoped Tork would be.

At least Mize and Tork are both serviceable players.  I didn't like the Mize pick because his fastball was below average and relied on a trick pitch.  But I suppose Avila could have picked Nick Madrigal, a 5-6 guy with no power and only the arm talent to play 2nd base at #1 instead of Mize.

And the other guys at the top of the 2020 draft sucked too, so I guess the Tigers came out about as good as possible in those 2 drafts.

A once in a decade type. Judge was the last. I'm just glad Kurtz is not a Yankee I guess. One good thing about baseball is you get someone that good and you can keep him for 5 years no matter the market you're stuck in.

Ask Paul Skenes if that's a good thing.  He has to put in his years for a franchise that isn't even trying to field a competitive team...kind of like the Tigers from 89 to 05.
