lordstanley Posted October 7 Posted October 7 In Sarnia at night we’d regularly pick up White Sox games with colorful Jimmy Piersall which I believe were around 670am (WMAQ?), the Reds (WLS?) around 700 and the Yankees with Phil Rizzuto around 770. Middle of the dial had the Red Sox (WBZ?) and the Cardinals. I too recall Harry Kalas and the Phillies but am drawing a blank as to where on the dial. Picking up LSU football games on Saturday nights was like hearing from another planet. I recall feeling slightly betrayed when a radio jingle with which I was familiar from Tigers broadcasts “Gee it’s good to be back home again, with the Detroit Tigers playing baseball again” was played on Reds broadcasts, identical but with “Cincinnati Reds” replacing Detroit Tigers. I forget who was the advertiser. Quote

I forget who was the advertiser. I believe Philadelphia was around 1200. WCAU? Baltimore and Cleveland also had strong signals. I hated the Orioles because they were so good. I liked them a little better when Jon Miller was their broadcaster starting in the mid 80s. What I remember most about Cleveland was Pete Franklin. He was a jerk, but at that time being a jerk on the radio was new and unique so I thought it was funny. Plus, he used to trigger Yankees fans by explaining to them why the indians were better than the Yankees. Edited October 7 by Tiger337 2 Quote

They didn't carry the Sox, but did become a Johnny Most fan listening to the Celtic games in the late 60s and early 70s, during the Havlicek days. Was also a big Jerry Williams and Larry Glick fan on talk radio Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 7 Posted October 7 When I was a kid in Northeast Indiana, I could pick up WJR and Ernie really easily. And being isolated in a backwoods area, so to speak, it was exciting to pick up WBZ from Boston which came in loud and clear at night and be exposed to Jerry Williams fascinating interviews with people and incursions into current events. Being exposed to something more cosmopolitan than a town of 5000 people surrounded by farmland could provide was really exciting. Quote

I went to one game with my dad and all he did was complain about how boring it was and the throw over to first was such a waste of time and that’s what pi$$ed him off about baseball. It was the worst time I ever had at a game. I was hoping for a good father/son bonding time and all I got was George Pulaski’s mouth. Quote

lordstanley Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Phillies-Dodgers is good. Phillies brought Duran in in the 7th. He walked Betts to walk in the tying run but then struck out Teoscar Hernandez to strand the bases loaded. 1-1 after 7. Ohtani is 1 for 17 in the series. Quote
