It shouldn't matter whether he's dead or alive. I do think that this was inevitable though given that MLB is now so in bed with gamblers that every broadcast is a game-long advertisement for gambling companies. The constant gambling promotion and the insane numbers of in game interviews saturated with plugola are making the broadcasts unwatchable. 3 Quote

Sports_Freak Posted May 15 Posted May 15 The Orioles are SO bad, their announcers are calling for their ball boy to go to the All Star game. They're about to get swept in a 4 game series....at home. Quote

I'm not a twins' fan, but you have to feel for the team and fanbase. Two guys who are arguably among the the best of their generation ( but can't stay on the field) are finally healthy and the team is beating up the rest of the league right now. I know it is baseball, but someone in Minnesota severely upset the baseball Gods. Edited May 15 by CMU97 1 Quote

They both walked off the field so hopefully that's a good sign....concussions in sports ...ugh. Quote

For now, but the voters that are on the younger side now will eventually be the elders and then it will happen. Hey, as long as we are re-writing standards of the game, maybe we should go back and talk to Jim Joyce and Jason Donald and give Armando the perfect game he actually earned. I mean, they re-played the Pine Tar game. Why can't they overturn this after the fact? George Brett broke the rules. He got caught. He deserved to be called out - even if it was a stupid rule. Quote

I do wonder whether a strong secondary reason Manfred allowed scumbags like Chick Gandil and Eddie Cicotte back into the game was because Manfred was sick of the Hall of Fame kicking the can over to Baseball when it came to this Rose guy, since they could be all like, hey man, don't look at us, Baseball banned him, we're just complying with their thing. Quote
oblong Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Maybe... but the HOF is guilty too because they explicitly inserted a rule when the Rose crap happened that anybody on baseball's ineligible list cannot go into the HOF. They could have removed that stipulation anytime. I looked at their board of directors. Manfred is on it along with other MLB past and current executives, some players, and some business folks. Pete will get votes. If you held a gun to my head and made me pick an otion, I'd now say he's voted in. But I woudln't place a bet on that outcome over $100. Jayson Stark has a thing in the Athletic today outlining the process. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6360650/2025/05/16/pete-rose-baseball-hall-of-fame-voting/?source=user_shared_article&fbclid=IwY2xjawKUIaZleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFWOFBsZDVIRGF5bGthZnZKAR5jYnjI2UAcz8z0buqD0qMBFh7KeFZOhQBIUt4fnnuetLP4VQxPjq612pA4rA_aem_ag11ivA09I-0felqLQctsQ Highlights: This commitee won't even meet until Dec 2027 and the makup of it will not be known until 4 days before the vote. 16 voting members, 8 players on the ballot. You can only vote for 3 on your ballot, so it's challenging mathematically, especially if a few voters have their own favorite that they will be voting on regardless. Voters do not share who they plan to vote for with each other and there's only one voting round. It's not a negotiation. They talk amongs each other for hours before voting though so who knows if there are 'informal' votes going on. Stark suggests that having LaRussa and Reinsdorf on a committee helped Baines get elected and the HOF Board may consider that in putting together future voting committees, relative to who they are voting on. Other potential players on that ballot: Tommy John, Ken Boyer, Vic Harris, John Donahue, Bobby Grich, Curt Flod, Craig Nettles, Maris, Freehan.... and..... Shoeless Joe. take heart in knowing that Pete will not affect the chances of our Sweet Lou. He's eligible for a different ballot. The contemporary Era. Quote

Ultimately though, I don't think he is quite worthy. He is kind of in the Jack Morris class, where I don't think he belongs but he wouldn't be the worst pitcher to make it. Whitaker and Freehan have stronger arguments. Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted May 17 Author Posted May 17 So we got Gage Workman back and Kenta signed a minor league deal with the Cubs. Basically we traded Kenta (and his salary) for Gage Workman. I think we won that deal. Quote

Like our 2006 World Series mistake was our pitchers not being able to throw to third base. I wonder what Joel Zumaya is doing these days. I know he still comes around every now and then. Quote
