Cross that bridge when you get there, but Meadows seems primed to take one back when his day comes. Maybe a pitcher like Balazovich or Enns comes up at some point. Maybe a waiver claim... don't have to fill it right away. Quote

The offseason attempt to acquire a RH bat seems to be fixed in the aggregate with Torkelson and Baez sudden quality. We have so many pieces coming back off injury it almost seems like you can't evaluate yet. Maybe they want to acquire more prospects? This should give us a sense of where they Tigers are weak and need help and oh my 1 Quote

We are dreadfully bad nowhere. We are weakest at SS and CF (but Trey Sweeney is warming up and we have a resurgent Javier Baez with reinforcements coming from Parker Meadows who plays an elite level CF) We are next weakest at SP (but we have the Cy Young incumbent, a resurgent Mize, a very good Olson, an elite rookie who needs reps and a somewhat slow start from Flaherty). I really don't see where we are forced to add anything...welcome thoughts. Quote
romad1 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Most shocking thing has been the quality of our C play from Dingler and Nido. Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I could see us going after a closer. I feel like that would let Hinch utilize Vest/Kahnle/Holton in a wider variety of situations assuming we make the playoffs. The downfall last year was too much reliance on Vest/Brieske with Foley struggling. Maybe someone like Kenley Jansen (assuming we didn’t end his career the other night) or Pete Fairbanks. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago This Tiger team is very similar to the 2021 San Francisco team that went 107-55. If you look at their Baseball Reference page, no individual player stats blow you away, but they just seem to get the big hit at the right time. Plus the pitching for that Giants team looks a lot like ours. Doesn't matter of Tork is hitting only .233. He's making the hits count. Who cares if he strikes out with nobody on in the 3rd inning I thought Andy Ibanez had a monster BA against lefties, but he's only hitting .263, but when he does hit, it's usually a big one. They just find ways. Quote

My favorite part is you see almost all the other teams with great records or super high expectations and no one else is as bulletproof as OBT are right now. Only the Yankees come close with their three worst positions all ranking 16th. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2025.shtml#all_team_output Obviously there’s a good chance this changes by late July, with injuries and slumps very possible or even likely, so a need may present itself in an obvious way. Although if we get solid pieces like Vierling and Jake and (fingers double crossed) Parker back, that might cancel out any slumps or injuries we experience. But yeah, if the deadline were today and the market came calling with an offer to take a major leaguer off their hands, I think I’d have to reply, nah bruh, we’re good. Quote

Cle having turrible SP is interesting. Is that matching perceptions? Their record is still good. Quote
oblong Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago To carryover the discussion from the MLB team on comparisons of this team vs the good teams we had last decade, this could be looked at as something chas has often talked about. Stars/Scrubs. Outside of Skubal I don't see this team as having many stars, if at all. But those other teams seemed to always have glaring holes. We'd get guys on then you see "Everett/Inge/Laird" coming up.... Looking at BR's page, of the 16 position players listed, 12 have an OPS+ of 99 or higher. Of those below that only Malloy has had significant playing time. 1 Quote

Who knows, we may be looking back on this team six or eight or ten years from now and marvel at how we had Colt Keith, Trey Sweeney, Dillon Dingler, Parker Meadows, Reese Olson, Jackson Jobe, Brenan Hanifee, and Brant Hurter—not to mention Tork, Casey Mize, Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, and of course, Tarik Skubal—all on the same team at the same time, before they became perennial All-Stars. Maybe even a locked-in Hall of Famer or three. Sure, a boy can dream, but go ahead, tell me it could never happen. Then tell me why. Quote

oblong Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I can't put my finger on why but I like Trey Sweeney. I think he's going to have a fine career and deliver a key hit in the playoffs one day. Quote
