Everyone, top to bottom, contributes. There may be rough spots where the club underperforms, but it’s not annihilating or of bewildering duration. It’s not a team that’s top heavy and completely nonfunctional if some of the main pistons misfire. I love how it’s an actual team and not just a collection of big egos and mercenaries. Sulking stars do not fit in. When you see how a guy like Torres, who came from the biggest show in the show fits seamlessly into the club’s élan it gives me hope that this is something sustainable and not just an aberrant one off thing. Maybe because I’m so invested in it, what the Tigers are doing seems remarkable and unique to me when it isn’t. Maybe every winning team is like this when it’s winning But I just get the feeling that something different is transpiring in Detroit. I’m not sure our previous teams that did well were like this. This same élan seems to prevail throughout the organization in the farm clubs too. Beautifully put. This Tigers organization is like no other Tigers org in my lifetime. It is everything I have wanted to see in this team for at least the least quarter century. I’m glad I’ve lived long enough to see it. 1 Quote

Looking at BR I see the following: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/1988-free-agents.shtml I don't see some of those as likely to come to Detroit but... not having a reputation for miserly behavior would help. We signed eight free agents on that list. Six of them spent 1989 as the last year of their career here, and one didn’t even make the team. Quote

And his next start is Saturday, July 5th in Cleveland. It's the Fox game of the week. Another chance for the Tigers to show off just how good this team is. 😁😁 Another Skubal game I will be on the road for or otherwise have a scheduled conflict with and will be unavailable to watch. That will make four straight Skubal starts, and six of the last seven, I will have had no opportunity to see him pitch, outside of stolen looks at snippets on MLB.tv. At least it will be a nice birthday treat to see him starting on July 11th. Quote

I am too young to remember pre-70s TSN, but it was still great in the 70s. They did start covering every sport at some point in the 70s, but they still covered every MLB team every week and still had all the box scores and stats every week which was a big deal at the time. It really started to go downhill in the 80s. 1 Quote

Morris won more games and that was when wins were seen as the ultimate pitching stat. But he's way behind in WAR, ERA, WHIP Morris might be the worst modern day pitcher to get inducted in the HOF. Steib was clearly better than Morris. Comparing Key and Morris is apples and oranges. Key had better rates, but Morris was a workhorse who pitched a lot more innings and complete games. I doubt Key would have had the same rates as he did pitching as many innings as Morris. Quote

RandyMarsh Posted Thursday at 08:46 PM Posted Thursday at 08:46 PM (edited) We also don't know how good they will be drafting players. It certainly looks promising but no player under the current regime has done anything in the pros yet. Outside of Torres and Mckinstry our whole lineup is Avila guys as is Skubal, Olson and Mize. While those guys almost assuredly wouldn't be as good as they are without the improvements Harris as made internally the fact remains they weren't his players. Hopefully, though, they re-do the rotation so he comes back and pitches again next Friday, Saturday at the latest, instead of sticking to the next slot in the rotation, which would delay his next start until a week from Tuesday, minimum.
