i'm tracking that this was a weird hit job on the Tigers as they started a series in NY.  Someone in the Athletic felt they needed to piss off Tigers ownership with things that happen every day and to every level of America (NO POLITICS).  Glad the Tigers thrashed the Yankees for 2 of 3 but no chance that was related to any reaction in the clubhouse.

I think the article's point to link this to the Tigers is a bit of a stretch.  This is a corporate culture issue within the Ilitch Organization.  These are people who could be doing jobs anywhere.  It's not about the baseball team, even if their current role relates to that job at the time.  It's not the late 90's Tigers on the team plane harassing flight attendants.  Even the Maybin and Monroe things are throw ins.  Maybin didn't do what he did because of what happens in offices across the street.  The Monroe situation appears to have gone nowhere and the team took that as a chance to cut bait with a story they didn't want to be a part of.  Again, that's not because Bob in Accounting made a comment about Jan's butt.

I think any investigation into a large conglomerate in this country would show this taking place.  It's not condoning it obviously but when shown a group of 1,000 men there's still pigs around and that's the case with Ilitch Holdings.

Depends how many of the women who came forward are on the baseball side. I do know the woman who was in the analytics department, who had gotten some pub several years back, left the team sometime in 2023-24. Giblin getting bumped up to VP after being Menzin's subordinate is interesting to me as well.

I don't agree that this is a New York hit job.

To my original point, if there are rumblings about a woman being thrown down the stairs by a team employee, the local media needs to get on that and chase it down.

There is clearly still a problem. They are retaliating against Stavenhagen, for example. Gustafson seems like a bad egg.

How are they retaliating against Stavenhagen?

Cody, on his podcast today, said the Tigers didn’t invite him to their press conference this week when they addressed this.

Society can't function when everyone is this greedy, and what I mean is that if the members of the press don't have enough solidarity with each other to boycott the event in support of one of their members who is singled out, then they all deserve to be divided and conquered. But they are too willing to see one of their own go down to make a nickel.

Of course the problem is that even if they all deserve to go down,  damn-little good that does the public.

Access is everything in competitive for-profit beat journalism, sports or not. How many media outlets banded together to protest when access to White House press conferences was yanked from AP? Divide and conquer simply works.

They dont need local media anymore.  They tolerate it but what they used to get out of them justified the sacrifice of being on your toes. But now that they have their websites and networks the papers aren’t a necessity to sell the product. Nobody is reading anyway.

Which is why the local beat reporters have to capitulate to the teams they cover.  Their profession has become democratized via podcasts, websites, social media, etc and they have to hold on to a regular paying gig as long as they can.  It’s no wonder why many of them have their own pods, too.

Ahh...that is on the schedule. Letters too tiny...lol. DH against the Twins. It may have playoff implications. Or even seeding.
