lordstanley Posted May 17 Posted May 17 The Rogers Centre roof was open for a game for the first time this season on a Thursday, but drizzly forecast today. Might be open tomorrow. Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Eric Lauer, a former first round Padres pick and a lefty, will be starting for Toronto today. He was most recently a starter in the International League and has been in three relief appearances so far this year for the Blue Jays. I don’t think this is pitching chaos. His nickname according to BR is Gomer. He’s definitely not a “rookie“ but most of our guys have never “seen his stuff.“ 1 Quote
SoCalTiger Posted May 17 Posted May 17 We have the best record in Baseball and El Mago leads the team in War rating at 1.9 Which is more surprising ? Please do not wake me up. 1 Quote
Sports_Freak Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Zach at SS and Nido catching. Our Sunday lineup on Saturday... Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander is out of the starting lineup once again Saturday afternoon as Toronto gets set to take on the Detroit Tigers. It will be the fifth game he has not started out of Toronto's last eight. Santander has dealt with shoulder and hip injuries this month and also missed Friday's series-opener against the Tigers. The 30-year-old is slashing .187/.266/.316 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 39 games so far this season with the Jays, his first since signing a five-year deal as a free agent this winter. <NB> slashing? IdahoBert Posted May 17 Posted May 17 The Tigers have the second best road record of any team in MLB with 13–10, bettered only by the Cubs at 13–9. Being even steven on the road is a big deal. Only 11 teams in MLB have even a .500 or above road record. And four of those understandably are in the NL West. The strange outlier in the AL is the Athletics who are vastly superior on the road than at home but as far as I’m concerned for them too bad not so sad. Of course I have nothing against the players, but only spite for the ownership. Quote
holygoat Posted May 17 Posted May 17 I'm pretty happy that Harris didn't sign Santander this offseason. 1 Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 17 Posted May 17 I don’t know how fleet of foot Santander is but at 6 foot and 230 pounds and 30 years of age he doesn’t sound like the kind of guy the Tigers would want in their lineup for five years. Maybe he’s flashy in the field - I don’t know well enough to say whether he is or not - but on the surface he doesn’t seem to illustrate now or in the future the sort of lineup flexibility we’re looking for. IdahoBert Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Oh boy! Javy and Zach and Tork are a part of today’s “parlay!” I swear Hunter Thompson almost nailed it when he said Las Vegas is what all of America would be if the Germany had won World War II. Instead, we did it to ourselves with a constant celebration of easy money as the greatest conceivable good. The Corleone family went legit. Quote

These baseball odds aren't something I even come close to understanding. It all gibberish to me and I guess I just don't care enough to even learn it. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted May 17 Posted May 17 I have confidence the Tigers will get to this inexperienced LH pitcher. Cocky confidence. Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Lauer has allowed only one hit to 17 RH hitters this year. Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Obviously had a free pink Mother’s Day shirt to the first 20,000 or so people who entered today. Quote

Will he clear waivers? no options left so I guess they need to DFA him, and as a 5 year vet he can collect his entire salary even if he rejects assignment. considering how horrible some back up catchers are, he might get claimed Quote
lordstanley Posted May 17 Posted May 17 (edited) The AL Central’s 1st place team has the best record in MLB and has won 30 of past 42. Its 3rd place team has won 12 straight. Its 4th place team had a recent stretch in which they won 16 of 18. Its 2nd-4th place teams are all in wildcard position. The AL East has 4 teams under .500. Edited May 17 by lordstanley Quote
