RandyMarsh Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Skubal's on pace to have a 1.80 FIP with 210IP, if that holds up the only people to do that since WWII would be Gibson in 88, Gooden in 84 and Pedro in 99. 1 Quote

I don't think he ever uttered a complete sentence in his entife broadcasting career. LOL - I remember when Shep first started lack of completed sentences was also definitely a thing. Quote

Here is my Tigers Jones all-star team (with only Jacoby Jones playing out of position): C. Jacoby Jones 1B. Tom Jones 2B. Dalton Jones 3B. Bob Jones SS. Ed Jones (aka Red Borom) LF. Tracy Jones CF. Ruppert Jones RF. Davy Jones DH. Lynn Jones SP Carroll Jones RP Todd Jones Others: Jahmai Jones, Elijah Jones Edit: I left out Jacques so there were 14 of them. I saw something recently about there never being a catcher named Jones in the American league. And only one in the NL. Quote

I think somebody posted that here and I remarked that Jones is not a catcher name. It's the name of a speedy outfielder. 1 Quote

Lol, I had Kubek baseball cards but I'm too young to have seen him play. He was a national announcer for decades, along with Joe Garagiola and others during my youth Quote

I have been categorized both as late Boomer and first-year X. However, I did learn late in life that we are both part of a subgeneration called “Generation Jones”, which differentiates our cohort of Boomers from the cohort of hippie Boomers who either protested or went to ‘Nam, neither of which characterized our experience. Being teamed with Curt Gowdy and Joe Garagiola didn't hurt.... Quote

Kubek never made any particular impression on me as an announcer. He was just there, which is OK I guess. Garagiola was the best. He just made any game he worked enjoyable - much like Ernie in that regard. 1 Quote

Of course back then 19 to 20 something year old me's preferred method of watching the Game of the Week was watching innings 1-3, snoozing thru the middle portion and waking up for the end. Quote
