The flipside is I wonder if they start losing games from losing one of their top two relievers that would knock them out of wild card contention.

Too close to the deadline for the team to decide what the impact of losing Clase will have...

But for what it's worth, if I were the Tigers I'd have more interest in Cade Smith anyways... Not that there was any chance of that happenin'...

If there is any validity to this, and his suspension could be greater, than I think they’d be reluctant to move Smith or other pieces of their pen.

Which is why they have had strict rules regarding gambling for a century.  Now, they are actively promoting and encouraging gambling.  It puts the integrity of the game in jeopardfy even if nobody is doing anything wrong.

And not just baseball. Sports in general.

Honestly, I don't hate it. He's a solid #5 and who knows, maybe Fetter can work his magic.

I definitely won't be happy if this is all they do (I don't think it is), but I don't hate it either for the reasons you say.  Have one of Melton or SGL replace Montero in the rotation and the other to the pen and you've gained at least 1 high K reliever.

And he's a rental. Another arm for Hinch to use. Waiver wire acquisitions and scrap heap pitchers are the best Harris can do? Quality over quantity please.

this seems like the Twins trying to get anything for Paddack and Harris hasnt found a trash heap he wont poke around in ... hes the guy that stops at the free sign on the junk on  the corner

Yeah too bad Harris couldn’t get anything more done before the deadline

So I do want to point out that it's been reported that both Tampa Bay and New York were also in on Paddack so it's not like there was no other interest in him.

The dumpster diving works on occasion—doesn’t hurt to try.  I’m sure they see something in him they like or think they can improve.

I generally prefer Fangraphs over MLB if possible so here is their write up on Jimenez.

28. Enrique Jimenez, C

Signed: International Signing Period, 2023 from Venezuela (DET)
Age 19.4 Height 5′ 10″ Weight 195 Bat / Thr S / R FV 35+
Tool Grades (Present/Future)
Hit Raw Power Game Power Run Fielding Throw
20/40 40/45 20/40 30/30 40/50 50

Jimenez is an undersized switch-hitting catcher prospect who makes an exciting amount of hard contact for a young hitter his size, it’s just often on the ground. Jimenez slashed .242/.366/.376 on the Lakeland complex in 2024 but posted an impressive 42% hard-hit rate. He isn’t an especially projectable athlete at a stocky 5-foot-9, and while it’s amazing that he had a hard-hit rate that sizeable given his physique, it’s tough to project big long-term power for such a small guy. Jimenez also has developing to do on defense; he’s not a great ball-blocker right now and lacks the size of a prototypical catcher. He could conceivably be a Garrett Stubbs type of backup.

Paddack is a jag who has had tommy john surgery..i guess he can be a back end starter to an extent.

He has a 1.28 WHIP this year and a 1.21 career WHIP so he's pitching on a par with Flaherty and Mize. One of these 3 goes to the bullpen in the post-season.
