A temporary six-man rotation gives us a little breathing room if one of the guys goes down with an injury, plus it gives everyone an extra day to recharge as we go through the dog days of August and September and into the playoffs. If they go this route, I’d bet it would get pared down to a five man rotation by end of month. I was wondering about the six man rotation thing. Maybe the organization’s x-ray specs have “seen something” in Morton they can fix. Quote
IdahoBert Posted Thursday at 10:32 PM Posted Thursday at 10:32 PM I don’t know if I care all that much about what the players were saying, that they wanted Suarez, etc.. I look upon the players as athletes, not as masterminds of strategy and organization building. But ignoring their humbly conceived wishes seems like a double-edged sword too. It’s AJ‘s job to sell it. Quote

So he's not a bad depth piece to add to the rotation. 1 Quote

In his last 11 starts, he has 6 quality starts and 1-5 innings of shutout and 2 5 innings of 2 runs. Of course his other starts were 2 giving up 4 runs and 1 giving up 7. Quote

Morton has pitched at least five innings in 10 of his last 11 games, and has given up more than three runs in only two of those games. Pitcher wins don’t mean anything, of course, but for what it’s worth, he is 7–1 during that stretch with a 3.88 ERA and almost exactly 9 K/9. I’m pretty sure we got him to start and not for anything like long relief. If anyone is a odd man out, it’s probably going to be Melton, at least until Morton shows he doesn’t have it anymore. And now I want to know what Morton’s Statcast card looks like during that stretch, versus the season-long card we see on the Savant site. 2 Quote

Who wouldn’t say they want that? And I’m sure they’ll now say in public that they know they have the horses they need to win the pennant and a ring. Who wouldn’t say they know that? I think they will feel fine either way, but players want to win. That's why they will go to winning teams, so they they can win. Even thought the new team was already good without them, they still like the idea of winning. Quote

I don't think pitcher statcast cards are very predictive, so I wouldn't be too concerned with that. Statcast hitter numbers are more useful. Quote

And Suarez only plays 3rd base? Hinch likes moving players all over the field. If 3rd base continues to be an issue, we always have the off-season to sign a free agent....Suarez. Or Bregman. Quote
