RedRamage Posted Tuesday at 04:48 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 04:48 PM I had this thought recently: Could Hooker end up in the UFL? I mean I wouldn't be surprised at all if another NFL team picks him up as a 3rd QB or a practice squad guy, but I doubt he ever moves beyond QB3 (barring a string of injuries). The UFL might be a place him to try to showcase himself. Quote

I think the UFL is a great suggestion. I think he needs a vast amount of work IN-game, on-the field, so he can actually develop some timing/ reading (defenses)/ etc... and the UFL is the place for him to get it. So... we'll see. Quote

Not that I see it happening anytime soon, but this is where a partnership between the UFL and the NFL could be advantageous for both. Obviously a lot of tweaking and adjusting would need to be made and the UFL season would need to be changed to overlap, at least a little bit, with the NFL to get the best results for the the NFL. But wouldn't it have been nice to send Hooker to a "minor league" last season and this one too so he could get some "real game" seasoning and we get a better idea of if he's really cut out to be an NFL QB? Given his age at this point I think the chance of him being an NFL starter is about zero, but still if he could have shown something who knows? Maybe he even has trade value that we could have gotten something out of him? Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted Tuesday at 07:40 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:40 PM Hooker’s biggest problem is in his recognition and reading both a defense and moving between receivers. Tennessee runs a backyard football offense where he wasn’t really asked to dissect a defense. If his first look wasn’t open, he would often tuck the ball and take off. That doesn’t work with the big boys. In 2-3 years, he never picked up on the ability to run through a progression. Could he survive in the UFL without that ability? Maybe, but I doubt it. Quote
Shinzaki Posted Thursday at 09:09 PM Posted Thursday at 09:09 PM (edited) Dallas trading Parson to the Packers..he's already agreed to the richest non QB contract in history. Annie Agar will be ecstatic Edited Thursday at 09:10 PM by Shinzaki Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted Thursday at 09:21 PM Posted Thursday at 09:21 PM Lions fans of late seem to have this complex like no one else is getting better but us. As if other teams around us aren't trying or have tried, but aren't improving. This is a massive win for the Packers. Damn, I hate to see this. Quote

GalagaGuy Posted Thursday at 10:00 PM Posted Thursday at 10:00 PM And of course there are boneheaded Lions fans all over social media throwing a fit as if the Lions could have and should have made that same offer for Parsons. Sure we could have, as long as you let Hutch walk. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted Thursday at 10:18 PM Posted Thursday at 10:18 PM (edited) The Lions won 15 games last year and had one of the best point differentials ever. The Lions already have an elite pass rusher. If anything, Lions fans have this complex that they need two elite rushers that cost over $80 million in salary. Hongbit Posted Thursday at 10:33 PM Posted Thursday at 10:33 PM Parsons is a huge get for GB but nothing has changed in that their season will be determined by how well Jordan Love plays. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted Thursday at 10:36 PM Posted Thursday at 10:36 PM It shouldn’t be forgotten that Clark is a decent player. The Packers run defense got worse. Quote

I see Lions fans online and calling in at 97.1 spiking the football as if us winning the division and repeating last years success is a certainty. I do think they'll win the division and I do think they'll be a very good team. But there are fans out there acting as if no one around us got any better. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted Thursday at 11:27 PM Posted Thursday at 11:27 PM The Lions did get better. Most of their defense was on IR last year. Quote

I just listened to 4 hours of people calling up the 97.1 mid day show saying that the Lions will be lucky to make the playoffs, and get booted in the 1st round even if they do. One dude said they had the worst defense in the NFC. Seriously, the calls ran probably 3-1 saying the Lions don't have a chance to make the SB this year. Quote
number20 Posted Friday at 12:15 AM Posted Friday at 12:15 AM Parsons wasn't that much of a difference maker when we played Dallas Quote
Motown Bombers Posted Friday at 12:39 AM Posted Friday at 12:39 AM Then Lions went 12 games without Hutchinson. That's like getting Parsons for nothing. The Lions are improved from last year. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted Friday at 09:47 AM Posted Friday at 09:47 AM Green Bay picking up Parsons makes them better, no doubt, but it doesn’t really move the needle much in my assessment of the division. It takes more than one man to make a division champion. Green Bay went 1-5 in the division last year, and failed to address what I see as their biggest defensive weakness this offseason, in the secondary. Position by position, Green Bay is still 3rd to Detroit and Minnesota almost everywhere. On top of that, their season was always going to be determined by whether they got more of the 2023 Thanksgiving Jordan Love or the 2025 NFC Wildcard Jordan Love. This trade doesn’t change that. I would be excited if I was a Packers fan. Every team wants a Micah Parsons on their team, and it’s them who swindled the senile old man Jerry Jones this time. But while it makes them better, I think it ultimately makes them 9-8 instead of 8-9; it doesn’t transform them into a Super Bowl contender overnight. 1 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted Friday at 12:28 PM Posted Friday at 12:28 PM I’m old enough to remember when the Packers traded Brian Branch to the Lions for a 5th round pick. Quote
RatkoVarda Posted Friday at 02:48 PM Posted Friday at 02:48 PM GB is the youngest team in the NFL. So they are in a good position to weather the loss of 2 1st rounds picks. And that won't negatively impact their roster until 2029 or so. But I agree, this does not their outlook very much. Their DTs are not very deep, or talented, or big. Teams are going run up the middle all season. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted Friday at 02:53 PM Posted Friday at 02:53 PM I always hear how young they are, but are any of their players actual stars? They have a bunch of #3 receivers, a star safety, and no CB depth. Quote
