But if the argument is that Belichick is a generational HC, why is his record so poor when he doesn't have Brady as his starting QB? If the argument is that Belichick made Brady much better than Brady would have been with anyone else why wasn't he able to elevate any of the other QBs he had? Let's compare Belichick to Reid a moment. I think Reid also benefits from having Mahomes as a QB. Like Belichick, Reid never won a SB before he got Mahomes as his QB. But, unlike Belichick, Reid had substantial success outside of his time as Mahomes' HC. From 2000-2009 in Philly he made the playoffs every year but two, getting to the SB once. This was with McNabb as his QB. From 2013-2017 in KC he only missed the playoffs once with Smith as his QB. Reid has won 11 post season games without Mahomes. Again, this isn't a totally fair comparison because no one is going to say that Vinny Testaverde is the equivalent of McNabb. So Reid had better QBs to work with than Belichick. Now, as much as I do love beating a dead horse, I'll state again that I don't think Belichick should be considered a bad coach nor do I think he shouldn't be in the HOF. I just think his rep as the Greatest HC of this Generation is skewed by him having the greatest QB of... maybe ever? Yeah, it's all good, people have different opinions. But the fact is no other coach has won as many Super Bowls as he did. Or been in as many. That's an indication that he may very well be the best coach ever. He also was an assistant on 2 other teams that won Super Bowls. His NFL career was remarkable and I doubt we'll see that success by a coach again in a very long time, if ever. People have been discussing whether the QB made the coach or if the coach made the QB for many years. I say they were a team that made each other better. Brady may have had success with a different New England coach and Belichick may have had some success with a different QB. But together, they were record breakers. Quote

The whole thing is just embarrassing. I think Belichick is a tool. Doesn’t change the results. Yeah. While I think of him as an EXTREMELY overrated Head Coach, he won SIX ****ing Super Bowls. Come on, man. But it was Brady. It was always Brady. Quote
KnoxP Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago My opinion, Belichick was a tool so my memory seems to say. I recall clips of him being an ass in responding to questions, short answers laced with what looked like a 'tough guy, that's a stupid question' attitude. This is his punishment and people are using Brady's GOAT status as their crutch for minimizing Belichick's success. 1 Quote

He was a **** to the media for the better part of three decades. And then when the media gets to decide whether he gets in first ballot? “Well let me think long and hard about that” Quote

That's why I was so surprised when Jack Morris got elected to the baseball HOF. Jack was a total jerk to the media. Quote
RedRamage Posted 16 hours ago Author Posted 16 hours ago I think it's also a bad sign that Belichick's coaching tree is pretty much non-existent. By itself this isn't evidence that he was or wasn't a bad coach, but I think it does add some weight to the claim that Belichick is over-rated. It obviously isn't a HC's job to train new HCs, so this a small bit of evidence. But It seems like a guy who is touted by some as a Generational HC would have at least some of that knowledge rub off on his assistants. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago LOL!!! It's no wonder T&P hates our offensive play calling. One of our OC's literally fell asleep at the switch. Of course we had a coordinator fall asleep during a game. Quote

Some Reddit sleuths did the digging and by process of elimination it was determined to be Jim Colletto. The 0-16 Lions were his last stop on a 41-year coaching career. Quote

So the veteran QB he mentioned was Culpepper? Quote
