I stopped following this game temporarily because I’m a weakling, but I’m glad to know that in a critical situation the Mets had to rely on Ryan Helsley and that he failed once again. Giving up on this team temporarily and taking solace in the fact that another player on another team failed doesn’t speak well of me, but I’ll take a win anyway I can get it.

I'd like to see Bobby Scales do more games with Benetti. Dirks is a better match with Dickerson.

I really like Bobby a lot. I’m not sure how the Tigers happened to pick up on him, but it’s working for me at least.

As much as we have been understandably frustrated with this club at times, they still have the most wins in the American League and only Milwaukee is ahead of them in the National League. I wish I had the resolve or ability to get some distance from the daily ups and downs and be rational about all this, but I’m not particularly good at that. Really glad the Tigers won. Now they have an off day to repair.

Hinch showing some confidence in Kahnle and Montero.   Be nice if they got it together for the next couple of months

@casimir mentioned weeks ago how Kahnle falls off a cliff after a certain number of innings. I wonder if they purposely gave him "a month off" (which is basically what has happened), to try to reset his stamina and to hopefully get him back pitching well for the very end of the season and the playoffs.

If so, I could be convinced that @casimir caught Scott Harris' attention at a game a while ago and was able to convince him of this plan.

The Tigers scored 19 runs in this three game series while allowing 24 runs to the Mets. Scoring runs is definitely not the problem right now.

This season is getting curiouser and curiouser. They’re at the top of the pile in the American League but it’s difficult to take a lot of solace in this even though I should.

When you follow a team is closely as most of us do you’re always more aware of the serpent in the garden than in all the good things that are there.

He may have recognized him because of his avatar here!

Skubal has the big strikeout total and the low ERA and all the fancy advanced stats, but Mize has something he doesn't.  He just knows how to win AND THAT'S SOMETHING YOU CAN'T TEACH.

He's clutch?? 🤣🤣🤣

I wish I could say I’m excited about Meadows coming back, but I’m not. Aside from having injury problems, I wonder if he’s a head case like his brother.

I mean his first game back after the injury he was spectacular, and then after that pretty much nothing. That may have been BABIP but I’m not expecting him to be a game changer.

I would dearly love being wrong about this. He was a big contributor last year.

He makes everyone on the team a better player.

He's getting stronger mentally - the ump screwed him a few times but it didn't knock him off stride. Of course he was throwing the ball well today, so that probably helped his mentality.

At minimum it allows Javy - who is 32, and is always playing a high stress defensive position, to get more games off against RHP.

I believe Meadows in centerfield and Baez playing more shortstop would help the pitching staff.

Probably - though McKinstry has exceeded my expectations with his play there - of course that could mean he is ripe for regression! I was disappointed in a lack of a play by Gleyber for the 1st time in a while today. I didn't think he made much of an effort on the ball Nimmo hit in the 8th. IDK, maybe he figures Nimmo is too fast to throw out if he dives for the ball, but the effort looked lackluster.

When (if) he gets on base, he's pretty exciting. He can be very exciting, especially on defense. Just...he needs to hit better than Sweeney. Shouldn't be a big ask...

The LMAO of the game was when Jason asked Dirks..."as a hitter, what's the difference between 98 MPH and 95 MPH?" And Andy answered "3 MPH."

This is why Dirks has been a ratings success. He dropped the one liner but then he did follow that up with a solid commentary. Of all the analysts Benetti works with, Dirks is the only one that will try to return the favor of trying to knock Jason off his stride and that creates a little more of a fun dynamic. Not to everyone's taste but it seems to be selling well. When Gibson was good, that is one of the things he would do as well - i.e. be a little more challenging to his partner, though in different ways than Dirks.

I agree, but it's a double-edged sword. Dirks's ability to match Benetti has the downside of sending Jason off script too much for my liking. When they're on, though, they're great.

Also, I think I'm the only one here who doesn't really like Bobby Scales. He talks way too much and way to fast, IMO. It's baseball, Bobby, not hockey. Airtime is less precious because the pace of the game is slower.

I also don't care for Scales for the same reasons.  His commentary is fine but I find his voice to be a distraction.
