I tried to watch it, but it seemed to be for people who think baseball is boring and who don’t find a 1-0 extra inning game scintillating. It’s Harlem Globetrotter baseball. Not my cup of tea and don’t understand the allure, but to each their own. Quote
theroundsquare Posted October 5 Posted October 5 That's funny, I used that exact analogy to describe it the other day to somebody Quote

Offense needs to put the ball in play and create havoc on the base paths like in the first half of the season. The Seattle gloves around the horn can be exploited. @SeattleMike has to get a sign on TV asking for Bert’s order of double curly fries. Definitely, but he could pitch well and we still lose. For example, I could easily see Skubes allowing 1 run over 7IP and leaving tied or behind. This is as much about how Tigers perform against Castillo. This game is by no means a gimme imo. Quote

I have seen little clips. It seems like something they would do in between innings at a minor league. I can't see watching a full game. Quote

I went to a live Globetrotters exhibition in Boise a few years ago with my son. We had courtside seats, and it was extremely entertaining in a way that didn’t make me feel like I was a moron. The little of banana ball that I watched on HBO Max made me feel like a moron, but if I was actually in the stands, the social aspect that any spectacle has might have ended up engaging me. Quote

IdahoBert Posted October 5 Posted October 5 If we make it past the Mariners is it better to face the Yankees or the Blue Jays? Quote

Yeah, that’s kind’of why I mentioned the offense needs to do stuff, too. 1 Quote

I like the logo more than the on field stuff. We were in Savannah for spring break. We drove by their play pen. I bought a shirt. The Harlem Globetrotter analogy makes sense. I like some things, I think other things are a bit much. The foul ball into the crowd being an out if caught by a fan? That’s good fan participation. The every defender on the field touching the ball after a walk? I don’t get it. Quote

Grayson Stadium is a piece of history. We saw the Savannah Cardinals there years ago while at Hilton Head one week. We drove up one evening to catch a game there. Our son lived in Savannah while attending SCAD years later and we saw some games in Savannah then as well. All this while Savannah was a South Atlantic League member. Quote

IdahoBert Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Well, I think it’s obvious we would rather face the Yankees, but that’s not gonna happen Quote

lordstanley Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I saw a video clip this summer in which some guy in his young 20s said that when he was a kid his dad would take him to ballgames at Fenway. And that the dad sacrificed time and money over the years to fund the kid’s baseball passion. So now it was going to be an emotional moment when he calls his dad to inform him he was making his Fenway debut that weekend. I thought sure it was a minor leaguer getting a MLB call up. Instead, it was just a guy on the Savannah Bananas and they were going to play/perform at Fenway. Quote
IdahoBert Posted October 5 Posted October 5 It looks like as I think Sherwood Anderson once said “eat your ice cream before it melts.” We should enjoy what we have right now and not look too far into the future given what the Blue Jays are doing right now. Quote
