The dynamic of the game tends to change in the playoffs as team are more concerned with protecting the puck. By betting $10 at a time, I walked away from this football/hockey season about $400 richer. I bet on Epicenter in the Kentucky Derby to win, so it was a small loss. I did think about throwing $20 on the long shot for the hell of it. Oops. $20 could have netted me $1500. Oh well, it was still exciting to witness that yesterday and it's a great story. Currently you can only play against people in Michigan. 4 states in it so far. Michigan, New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada. More will follow with PA probably next. It has allowed me to realize (unsurprisingly) that I am a terrible sports gambler without actually losing any of my own money. Bet "new" friends about $12 total that the Yankees would beat the Cardinals in the World Series. Then there was the time I bet a buddy $50 based on an old Fritos commercial. "Bet you can't eat just one" for a year (I was 13). My parents found out about 6 months into the bet. Tried to sabotage me during a Scout camp week and filled by footlocker with"treats". If I win a "2 dollars off a 20 dollar purchase" that goes unused. Ironically, my wife, who is really good at math, still buys a couple "Lucky for Life" tickets a month. I used to have to deal with the lottery when I worked in a grocery store in the past. Yes, a lot of "frequent flyers", and sad because this store was in a lower income area. A local watering hole I frequent has a couple lottery machines. People play a lot of Keno and/or progressive jackpot games. They can check their tickets for winners by scanning the code at the machine (before they buy more because they lost). They throw the non-winning tickets in the trash can beside the machine. I go in around 4pm. The machines are on the way to the bathroom so as I walk by, I grab a handful (or more) of tickets out of the trash, put them in my pocket, then proceed to the bathroom where I wash my hands. Later, when I get home, I scan the ticket into the Ohio Lottery app. They tell me they are losers but are worth 5 points (for Keno - some are more depending on the game). You can scan up to 1200 points each month, so I use two phones. Once I get to 10,000 I cash them in for rewards. I get a $100 dollar gas card, which for each phone gets me 2 $100 gas cards, which takes about 8 months, and doesn't cost anything. I've even found winners that someone threw away, so there can be a bonus. On the downside, I was scanning tickets at the bar one day and some guy beside me asked how I was doing. I explained I was just scanning the codes for reward points. His wife got pissed and said - you took "someone" else's ticket out of the trash to scan their points? Yep. You figure guys at these stakes wouldn't misread the hand so bad. To bust out like this is just heartbreaking, but it was his own fault for not noticing I guess. I wonder if a player not in the hand noticed and just didn't say anything. What a massive mistake. Not sure I ever saw anything like this. Deleterious Posted January 25, 2023 Share Posted January 25, 2023 Yes, it is on the dealer. If cards are face up then the dealer is in charge of determining the winner. I wish they had an overhead of the card box. Normally a dealer will push forward the cards that make up the winning hand. It is hard to tell but her motions make it appear she did not do that here. The player has to take a little blame though. If he pointed out her mistake it would have been fixed as long as it was before the next hand started. Then there is the tournament directors association rulebook. It says all players at the table are responsible for speaking up when a mistake is made. But there is no way to enforce that.
