That would be a great idea for all sports, and what I envisioned when people talked about Pay Per View 20 years ago. As far as I know, NBA.com is the only major pro sports league I know that offers a la carte single game purchases (albeit for considerably more than $1) Quote

Al had a good eye for talent and understood scouting and how to use and deploy scouting. But along with that other big failings - he had insufficient sense of urgency in making the changes that needed to me made because he wanted too much to 'bring the old-school guys along' instead being more cold hearted (again, you can like him more a person than as a GM for that), and secondly he was just a terrible, terrible trade designer/negotiator - probably lacked the creativity for it. So I believe Al when he says *he* couldn't find the deal, I'd wager that plenty of other GMs could have. Lastly, Al recognized the need for the tech, but was always going to be too dependent on the people around him because he was not going to master any of it himself. Always better to have enough command yourself to be better able to process what the people you hired are giving you (even if you are making good hires). Al had enough connections to stay in the game if he had wanted to so I tend to think he probably recognized he was a bit of an anachronism and it was going to be easier to retire. Quote

This year's World Series was arguably the most competivive World Series in history. It went seven games wiith one game going 18 innings and the 7th game also going into extra innings. During the regular season, four teams won more games than the Dodgers. On September 15, 2025 with just under 2 weeks to go in the regular season the Tigers' record was 85-65. The Dodgers' record that day? 84-65. Quote

The Dodgers were deeper, were able to get to that record using more experience players (4 yrs older by weighted ave than Det) who were able to maintain their consistency but who cost more. Edman85 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The only thing I hate more than the "Give 100% of the credit for player's success to the person in charge of baseball ops at the time" take is arguing the same thing over and over again. Actually I hate several things more than both: seafood for one. Quote

chasfh Posted 18 minutes ago Posted 18 minutes ago To me, if the agreement is like those made between MLB other teams before this season, the most important part of the Tigers’ partnering with MLB is going to be losing all the in-game gambling odds, drop-ins, billboards, promos, and the like. Quote

And really, why not retire? He had enough $$. His kid(s) were set. Why not kick back and enjoy life? Too many people in this world keep working until they have enough money to splurge in retirement and then either die before they use it or get too old to do all the things they want to. Life's short man, exit the rat race. Edited 6 minutes ago by NorthWoods Quote
