There is a fascinating thing people here do, and that is projecting their opinion on Scott Harris. e.g. "I think Harris would like (player I like)."

It is kinda funny once you see it once, like the beat guys loving on former Tigers.

Since Harris made an actual offer to Bregman last year...

There is some reality to that projection.

well, it's not like Harris has made a secret of the things he says he look for in a player, so it's not that much of jump to say a certain guy fits the profile he professes to prefer more than another guy. But issue is that all that idealized preference stuff has a tendency to get pushed to the side when faced with what you actually need vs who you can actually get. Or it's 50/50 at best. Gleyber is the kind of hitter Harris says he likes, though he did not have any rep as a good fielder (another supposed Harris priority) when he signed him.

Harris will most likely just go with the kids. McGonigle and Clark are going to fit right in with the baserunning strategy for years to come. I'm excited to see what they do but I know hitting will be a challenge at the MLB level.

What I see more often is people explaining why Harris or Ilitch won't like any player and how no player will want to play for the Tigers so it doen't matter anyway.

guess the docs didn't manage to  fix him

Another guy who is suddenly 30 and due for a raise in his first year of arbitration eligibility. Probably not a big raise but not worth the risk I guess. Control the zone or else!

McGonigle may not be a perfect-fielding SS...

But is he any worse than Bichette?

So...

If the team actually believes McGonigle is ready for MLB... then Bregman is the better fit. And, we still have Baez and McKinstry so, IMO, SS really is covered.

I see McGonigle at 2B if Torres leaves or 3B if he stays.  Adding Bichette and McGonigle’s bats should be an upgrade to our lineup.

Odd man out?  Colt Keith, though he could end up at DH

Right...

But my point was that McGonigle may be a better fielder at SS than Bichette (I don't know the answer to that).

So it might have to be Bichette that is OK with sliding to 3B if McGonigle is up in Detroit and proves to be the better fielding SS.
