CMRivdogs Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I was skeptical before seeing it. It's good. You might want to check out the soundtrack first. The current "movie" that's out is a filmed Broadway performance they made in 2020 with the original actors. It's been rereleased for a temporary run in theaters. A lot less expensive than stage productions 1 Quote
oblong Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I'm one of the few that didn't care for it. I know I'm an outlier I guess and accept it. I generally hate musicals. I struggle understanding what they are singing. So when we watched the "movie" i had the subtitles on. I knew the history already. And reading the text made me miss the production somewhat. I don't know... I just didn't see the big deal. My wife saw it at the Fisher and loved it. 1 1 Quote
romad1 Posted September 22 Author Posted September 22 I can put the Hamilton soundtrack on at any time and my kids are into it. 1 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted September 22 Posted September 22 For us it was two hours or so of guilty pleasure on a Sunday afternoon. Something we don't often do. Quote
ewsieg Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Every live musical I went into simply because my wife and/or daughter wanted to see it. Every live musical I've walked out of I was thoroughly impressed with. Hamilton was no different. 1 Quote
oblong Posted September 22 Posted September 22 By no means listen to my opinion on whether to see it. You can’t argue with its success and that people loved it. I’m the old dad in Monty Python’s holy grail who stops the singing. (Huge tracts of land) 1 Quote

I made the mistake of seeing both Book of Mormon and Spamalot at one of the theaters downtown here, in the balcony both times. I picked up maybe a third of what they were saying, the sound was bouncing around so much. I guess you have to pony up the bucks to sit behind the orchestra pit to be able to pick out the lyrics. LaceyLou Posted September 22 Posted September 22 And I'm considered the odd one in the family because I'm the only one interested in musicals, classical music, ballet-you get the idea. Maybe we could switch family/acquaintances for a weekend? 😉 PS it is definitely worth it to sit where you can hear the lyrics better. 1 Quote

Especially if it's community theatre. I had a similar experience with The Fantasticks. Then there was that dreadful experience in London where we endured a musical version of Tess of the D'Urbervilles. 😣 Quote

I’ll go to each showing, usually 3 or 4 per production. I get some of it the first time, more of it the next time, so on and so forth. Quote

She saw Wicked once and from then on I hear her singing along when something from it is on TV. I will ask her what that is. I’m like “you saw it once…”. But I mean… she even loves Xanadu. Quote

I'm sure it is, but when the choice is $85 for a balcony seat versus $275 for a floor seat for an event you don't care so much about, the money part usually wins. 2 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I haven't been paying close attention. What time is the rapture? Should I cancel lunch plans and head to a bar? Is there a dress code? Can I wear shorts and my Madison quote T-shirt (If men were angels)? Quote

Which is why I haven't yet seen the Broadway show, tbh. The balcony seats tend to sell out fast, and while I've gotten floor seats for other shows for a reasonable price, that hasn't been the case with Hamilton so far. Quote
smr-nj Posted September 25 Posted September 25 NJ gubernatorial race - latest poll is a dead heat…. Sooooo - this happened today. (btw, her ssn was also part of the unredacted release.) ******** NEW JERSEY -- The race for governor in the Garden State exploded on Thursday into ugly accusations of dirty tricks and alleged leaks. As Republican Jack Ciattarelli visited voters in Hunterdon County, the National Archives admitted it had wrongfully released the military records of his opponent, Democrat Mikie Sherrill. They revealed that the congressmember and war veteran was barred from walking in her 1994 Naval Academy graduation for failing to report classmates who had cheated on exam. Sherrill herself was never accused of cheating. "I support a criminal investigation into the unauthorized and illegal release of Mikie Sherrill's records," said House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries. Jeffries blamed the Trump administration for weaponizing the documents to prop up Ciattarelli, who polls show is newly surging in popularity. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted September 27 Posted September 27 I have now sent at least one email every single day for the past calendar year to John James. The response rate has been less than 10%. Every Friday I ask him to provide five things he accomplished for the week. It seems my best response rate was when I was calling him a liar if he votes to cut Medicaid. He hasn't responded to my Epstein emails. Today I made fun of him for finishing 4th in a straw poll among Republicans. I'm like Andy Dufresne in Shawshank Redemption. I'll keep writing my letters. 1 Quote

Sounds like there could be a book or movie, called John and Me. 1 Quote
