Yes, small sample size.  Teams probably don’t have enough of a book on him.  But very encouraging early on.

If he has a weakness, the rest of MLB will find it.  But in the meantime, enjoy the ride.................

When you think of guys who got good for a while and you didn’t expect it, names like Chris Shelton and Brennan Bosch come to mind. Their short-lived flashes of brilliance didn’t last. 

But Kevin has been on the radar from the start and has been expected to excel and overall we can reasonably expect him to rise to the occasion even though there will have to be a learning curve factored in here. 

I think we have good reason to believe we have more than a diamond in the rough on our hands here.

I don't know if Peralta was just trying to go away and cross him up after trying and failing to tie him up inside and left it too much over the plate, or if he was just giving in and throwing him a 'here it is hit it pitch',  but either way,  Peralta threw him exactly one decent pitch to hit in that AB,  and to McGonigle's credit, he didn't miss it.

It's two days, he may be playing on unsustainable adrenalin - in fact he is certainly playing on unsustainable adrenalin. So he's going to come down off the cloud, but right now he is high enough he can come down quite a way from the last two days and still be pretty good.

I've been around softball more than baseball, but what the heck is a 3B glove and how is it different from any infielder mitt besides 1B?  

I realize the infielders like a mitt that's shorter than the OFs who love the giant jai alai gloves.  I personally play with a 13" mitt befitting my status as a perma DH who should only play outfield on an experimental or shock-art basis.

I imagine you might play 3rd with a slightly larger glove than SS but I have to wonder if switching gloves for that small a difference is even a good idea if you are playing both position a lot. The human brain is really good at learning things like how long the fingers of a glove are if you give it a lot of reps. You are giving something up to not take advantage of that spatial learning. Is that more or less advantage than the other glove can give you? I'd like to believe teams/players really know the correct answer to that, but baseball has been based on so much incorrect lore/conventional wisdom in the past for so long it's enough to give you doubts.

Gloves matter, depending on where you are. Pitchers want big gloves to help hide the ball. Outfielders would too for that one that just got away. Infield is a time thing. You have little. Smaller glove is better.  I'm sure today they can get custom made gloves, just like bats.

I don't know if the difference between bigger/smaller 3rd base glove and a SS would matter, but if that's what they want to do, and can, why not? A pitchers glove and a SS/3B guy was like a boat anchor and something you could catch a ball with. :-). Of course that was when Denny McClain was winning 31 games.

I am going to share my current glove again...

I assure you that after several months of very muddy Virginia softball it no longer is this bright color.   I explained the livery of the color scheme somewhere but its basically the US Air Force TACP crest colors.  Blue for Air, Green for Ground, Red for the Firepower we deliver.  

The new one plays a lot better than my $35 super soft glove that I have to replace the laces on each season.   Its great for coaching and having to retrieve balls without having to reach that extra 13" when i'm trying to refill the Jugs machine.
