Probably send him down and keep him stretched out. Especially with SGL struggling, you probably want Madden ready to step in.

Kinda what I was thinking will happen since Hurter is on the DL now.  Kind of makes De Jesus a necessity as a lefty

First 1/3 of the season is now complete.

Tigers are one game above the Angels and Rockies for the worst record in MLB

Baseball is a hard, cruel game.

And yet they’re still only 5 games behind the wild card.

I wonder how much (if any) of Javy's contract the Tigers were able to insure.  I don't recall that he had any real injury history before coming to Detroit

Two DL stints before the Tigers: DL-15 Left thumb contusion from a headfirst slide into 1B, April 2016; and IL-10 Back spasms for "wear and tear" with the Mets in August 2021. With the Tigers? Four stints across 2022, 2024, and this year.

Maybe it was that "wear and tear" stint that might have scared off the smarter and/or less desperate GMs.

Who are you salivating over, and what'll give in return?

Nobody really specifically, I am just curious who y'all see as will be on the block next month.

I put forth this trade idea on the Reds message board:

Reds Get:

Keider Montero

Tigers Get:

Noevli Marte

Lottery Ticket Arm

I think it was the strikeouts and lack of walks and the fact that a lot of his value was his speed and defense.  That's not a profile that ages well.  His decline was predictable.

Look what he is doing in AAA right now, though.

We don't need wins at Toledo.

Besides, I don't think we'd be in a hurry to trade a perfectly good young league-average who's controllable through 2030. I can see why you'd like that, though.

Why would the Tigers trade Montero.  He's 25, a decent #3 starter and is under contract for several more years.  Trading him for majix beans is kind of silly.

They are already super thin at starting pitching and trading your second best starter who is healthy doesn't make a lot of sense.

McGonigle is up near the top 10 in WAR in baseball.

He'll still finish a distant 2nd in the rookie of the year voting.  Murakami is going to smash 45 + home runs this season.  No way do they give the award to a .275-.290 hitter with 10 home runs or whatever he ends up with on a last place team.

You're probably right but it doesn't seem fair that veteran players from Japan are even eligible. It's actually disrespectful to Japanese baseball. Maybe some writers lean this way and McGonigle seeks it out.

I'd much rather have McGonigle.

They haven't figured out to not let him home runs yet so we'll see.  The rules aren't fair but those are the rules.

It's a strong rookie class.

Parker Messick hasn't had any really bad outings.  One where he gave up 4 runs, but it's tough for a pitcher to win the ROY when there are valid position players.

Basallo is improving.

Bazzana got a late start but he's kind of playing similarly to McGonigle.  He's going to be a high quality player.

DeLauter seems to go in stretches.

Who knows what will happen.

It's still crazy to think that guys like Trout, Soto, Harper and Machado were really good or even stars at the age of 19 and 20.
