Who pitched the 8th and didn't record an out, Hinch or Finnegan?

If you can prove the Tigers win the game if Montero is left in until he hits 100 pitches, then you can blame Hinch for pulling him.

When you have to resort to having Zack Short on your roster - your team is not good.   But we have 10 SS prospects, but none of them are ready. 

 

My whole adult life the Tigers were weak on position prospects and loaded with potential MLB pitchers.     Total opposite now.  Loads of position guys and few pitchers close to being ready. 

And the most frustrating part of it   is that they wasted a VERY good start tonight.     It's happened way too often already this year. 

 

But............always remember, we're in the AL Central.  You could win this with 80-84 wins.

Bad BPs make every manager look bad - damned if you do, damned if you don't. If you are losing ballgames in your BP, blame your GM, or just bad injury luck, or both.

Riley makes superman catches but has a noodle arm. And yes, Vierling or Zach in RF over Perez...once we find a real CF. But our real problem is our BP. Game after game...good starting pitching and late blown leads. Montero was at 71 pitches...he had a bit of a trouble in the 6th, but leave him in. The worst that could happen is we lose. How did it turn out? We lost ...Montero probably could have thrown a 95 pitch complete game. Ugh...

Well...Finnengan did have an ERA of under 1. Once Montero was taken out, it was the right call. A 2 inning save. Unless he was planning on using Jansen for the 9th. Madness....

As always, you're right. Once again. Amazing. BTW, Tigers lost. Our SP was pulled after 71 pitches of 1 run ball. Genius move...Hinch looks like a moron.

that contract is looking a little less favorable for the Tigers this season.Definitely counter expectation that a player that should be developing more power at this point in his career has seen his ISO go basically to zero. Superficially, one would argue that much like Riley's shift last season to the super uppercut, Colt's shift this season to the super short approach has been an over compensation. Last season Riley did hit more HR's but became a worse hitter and is having to fight back from that now. Colt has gotten his AVG and OBP up but so far at too high a cost in ISO. Hopefully Keith can make an in season adjustment to get to a better compromise instead of this being his MO for the whole season.

Didn't he say that in 1987 when they got off to a slow start?  I am not sure, but they were were 19-21 after 40 games that year.  However, they had begun to heat up by game 40 whereas this team appears to be going nowhere until they do a whole lot of healling.

We may be able to hold out until we get mize, melton, and skubal back but what's going to help this BP? Hard not to suspect Vest is on his way to TJ. Melton maybe - but I have been assuming they are going to need Melton in the rotation - at least until Skubal gets back.

So best case, Flaherty straightens out (he wasn't horrible last time out), the rotation settles at Mize, Flaherty, Valdez, Montero, Mleton, then eventually Skubal and Melton can go to the BP, but I'd really like to see another BP arm from somewhere. Now all we need is for Mize and Melton to actually get back and the rest to happen before they end up too far back to catch up.

Why can't McKinstry play shortstop ? Do we NEED Short ? 

I say it's time to make some position decisions and let them play. Tork-Lee-McStinky- McGonigle -Dingler -IF , Greene-Verling-Carpenter(gulp) OF and Keith DH. Play them everyday until injured players return. 

There isn't any now or future with Perez - Jones or Short. We really miss Meadows and Baez  for defense. Until then just put the best defenders in the field and let Carpenter-Keith and Lee play everyday . But only Carpenter in RF and Keith only DH.

No fanbase should be more dismissive of this silly canard than Tiger fans, if they were paying any attention at all to the last two seasons.
