Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 Since a S&T is being talked about, something to consider. Duren only counts as 50% of his salary for outgoing purposes. So if the first year of his S&T contract is $40 million, he only counts as $20 million in a trade. Meaning Detroit would have to come up with $30 million more for someone like Brown. Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 Hoops Rumors Glossary: Base Year Compensation Quote The BYC rules apply to a player who meets all of the following criteria in a sign-and-trade: He is a Bird or Early Bird free agent. His new salary is worth more than the minimum. He receives a raise greater than 20%. His team is at or above the cap immediately after the signing. If the player meets those criteria and is included in a sign-and-trade deal, his outgoing salary for matching purposes is considered to be his previous salary or 50% of his new salary, whichever is greater. For the team he is being signed-and-traded to, his incoming figure for matching purposes is simply his new full salary. Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 A literary bucket of cold water on any Brown talk. Why the Timberwolves embraced risk and went all-in on the LaMelo Ball trade Quote They had talks with the Boston Celtics about Jaylen Brown, a team source said, but the Celtics were looking for a package including Gobert, Reid and similar pick compensation that went to Charlotte for Ball, team sources said. So not only does he have to find a team that wants to pay him. He has to find a team that offers Detroit compensation they want and consider equal value for Duren. Like I said, all part of the dance. Shinzaki Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Just in: The Oklahoma City Thunder are trading sharpshooter Isaiah Joe to the Detroit Pistons for two future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. https://www.espn.com/contributor/shams-charania/f479159825b66?modifier=webview http://espn.com/app Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 From a Thunder fan. Quote Joe is a regular season player, against the best teams he gets played off the floor. But in the regular season he will get hot and hit 5 threes and win a couple games by himself. In the playoffs he finds him self out of the rotation against the best teams. The emergence of Mccain in the WCF really shut the door for Joe. Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 So it was Stew for Joe, basically. Doesn't kill the possibility of an S&T into the cap space created by trading Stew. They could trade Stew, then delay the Joe trade while they use the Stewart cap space for the S&T. Complete that then use the TPE created by the Stewart trade to bring in Joe. I think that works, but I would feel better seeing some of the cap gurus on Twitter confirm it. It probably kills any Herro trade though. You can't keep stacking bad defenders. I would say their attention now turns to the PF spot. Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 Joe vs Robinson shot charts. I would guess Joe has some of the best corner 3 numbers in the league, filtered for decent volume. Quote
NYLion Posted June 26 Posted June 26 (edited) Good trade, gave up very little for a premier young shooter. Joe is essentially a younger Duncan Robinson locked up at affordable numbers for the next two years so this is a nice move. Edited June 26 by NYLion 1 Quote
Betrayer Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Really good move to get Joe for just 2 seconds. 40% regular season 3pt shooter and 38% in the playoffs. OKC just has too many good players, so they can afford to lose him. My only issue with it is we have a 6'6" PG and we're just giving away that huge defensive advantage by collecting smaller players to put next to him for some reason. They've got to at least move Sasser this offseason, right? Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 It's not really a size issue. I mean it is a bit. But the more concerning issue is the amount of guys they are collecting that can't play defense. One of the biggest things OKC needed in the playoffs was shooting. And Joe lost his minutes? I mean, that's pretty concerning. Quote
Betrayer Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Most teams play their starters more in the playoffs, so I'm not surprised Joe's minutes got cut in half on that team. But I do agree that his defense/size probably played a role as well, especially in the playoffs when your weakest link gets exploited. My biggest desire for this offseason was 3 and D players. I like the Joe move, and he fills a need, but we're still sitting here with JB having to decide offense or defense with every single rotation decision. Offseason is just getting started, so we'll see where we end up, but it's a lot harder to go deep in the playoffs with players who can't compete on both ends. Regular season will be fine as long as you have Cade and Ausar. Quote
buddha Posted June 26 Posted June 26 if they dealt stew theyre not going to deal duren in an s&t. Quote

I got pretty excited for a minute when I saw the S&T report, my mind fantasizing about a Jaylen Brown or TMIII trade...then reality set in and I realized this was just a typical Agent leak and it only means they're going to wind up giving him even more money. Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 He would have to find a team that could present a package Detroit found attractive. Not impossible, but I wouldn't bet on it either. Quote
Betrayer Posted June 26 Posted June 26 I’ll say this about the trade for Joe, it’s exactly what I was talking about when I said you could get 80 percent of what a guy like Herro or Powell can give you for very cheap. Hopefully we can get away from the Herro/Powell rumors now because we have bigger needs (PF, 3 and D players). Quote
Deleterious Posted June 26 Author Posted June 26 He's a worse version of Robinson. We all sat here for two playoff rounds correctly roasting Robinson for his bad defense. Now people are happy we brought in a guy who plays worse? That doesn't make sense. His on/off was -17 in the playoffs. We were livid at Robinson's -5. Second round picks are useless, so I'm not going to get upset about it. But I don't see how this helps them advance in the playoffs since you probably shouldn't play him in the playoffs to begin with. Quote
Betrayer Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Yea, I just don't agree with saying Robinson is better based upon that sample size and using +/-. If you look at the per 36M or per 100P numbers, Joe is slightly better in most categories including 3P%, FT%, #FTs, Rebounding, Steals, Turnovers, Fouls, Pts, Ortg, and Drtg. Most differences are slight, but that's a lot of slight increases. He also has a much better handle, didn't turn the ball over, and scored 1.24 pts per possession as the pick and roll ball handler (98th percentile). And finally, he's 6 years younger and on a cheaper contract. He's a great replacement for that 6th man spot that was a total failure last year (Lavert). The move only cost 2 seconds and it gives you even more freedom if you have to move Robinson and his tradable contract as part of another deal. 3 1 Quote
Betrayer Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Another thing to add is he isn't Powell or Herro. He's getting paid 11M, is 26 years old, and plays 70+ games. Herro is getting 33M, is always injured, and will want an extension. Powell and Joe have very comparable per numbers, meanwhile Powell is 33 years old, often injured, and is going to get paid 25M. This was a much smarter move than going after one of those two (I'm saying this hoping they aren't still trying to get one of them). 1 1 Quote

1984Echoes Posted June 26 Posted June 26 PS: Also... IMO, Joe makes Sasser superfluous, expendable, as well as LeVert and Duncan. Not all 3 guys for bringing in Joe... What I mean is including those 3 in any trade or trades doesn't empty our bench because now we've got Daniss, Okorie, Joe and Lanier there. If Holland also gets traded, do we sign Huerter for depth? I'm assuming that any trade Trajan makes (with Sasser, LeVert, Duncan, Holland...) Is bringing in the best 3&D wing he can get his hands on. But we still need a PF. Harris? Can we find better? Quote

Except, he ran PnR ball handler 0.2 times per game. He made a shot from running an PnR ball handler play 0.1 times per game. Yep, he runs the PnRBH play once every 5 games. He makes a basket from it every 10 games or 8 times a year. 1.24 points per possession at that rate equals about 20 points per season for him as the PnR ball handler. Not a Herro fan either. Much more receptive to Powell for sure, but not a huge deal to me if they don't go get him. But the one thing you don't mention. Those two can both be handed the ball and go get a shot for you. Joe never will. Herro sucks on defense and I think Powell is a bit overrated there. But he is better than Joe on defense. And Powell is a career 39% three point shooter, so you lose almost nothing there with him compared to Joe. You do have some injury concerns with Powell. But if you could get him at $20 million per, much better option than Joe for the playoffs. We should bookmark this for April when we're both yelling at our TV's how terrible Joe is on defense. Quote
