I imagine it would just be for a couple of seconds Add a little more to the deal and bring back Gafford. Just like that you've replaced Duren for less than half the money and got better on defense. 1 Quote

Deleterious Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 If I'm the Lakers I think I would target Kessler over Duren. He isn't really a lob threat but he's a very good defender and they really need that. I also think they have a better shot at landing him with an offer sheet. He will be a bit cheaper, so there is more room to overpay so Utah won't match. Most already feel Detroit will match a max offer so there isn't any room to overpay . Quote
buddha Posted June 30 Posted June 30 i'd be stunned if they let duren walk for nothing. however, having him walk for nothing is probably a better long term plan than tying your franchise to him for the next 5 years. Quote
Deleterious Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 I agree they won't let him walk for nothing. But more teams should consider it. It's easier to fix his absence than it is to deal with a terrible contact for the next four years Quote
Deleterious Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 We're about 3 hours from one of the most amazing things in sports. The ability to negotiate a players contact in under 30 seconds. Because by 6:01pm we will already have multiple deals announced. Like they haven't been talking for weeks now. 1 Quote
Betrayer Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Offer sheet may make more sense for the Lakers in a dream situation where we let it happen, but it just doesn't work that way in reality. No team wants to tie up all their money for the first few days of free agency when they know we can just match. We may not want to, but I doubt we let him walk for nothing and they know that. Their best chance at acquiring him is a S&T. It also lets them know what they're doing with free agency rather than a big fat question mark for a few days and then scrambling to pick up the pieces. Deleterious Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 A sign and trade with LA isn't very appealing. Currently, Ayton is probably the third-best player on that roster and I want nothing to do with him. The next pick they can trade is 2031. Now, Detroit doesn't have to take any players back since LA can absorb the Duren contract into cap space. They could just take the 2031 and 33 picks and call it a day. But I would guess that isn't very attractive to Langdon since he doesn't have a clue if he is even around in 2031. He probably feels keeping Duren helps him today and he doesn't care about 2031. Quote
Deleterious Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 My prediction with over an hour left before things kickoff. 95% chance Duren is back. Might not happen right away and could drag out even into August. But he comes back. The other move will be some sort of trade for a PF. No clue who, maybe PJ Washington from Dallas. Quote

Do you think splashy moves like Trey Murphy, Kyrie, MPJ III are simply not going to happen? Subbing out Tobias for PJ Washington seems like a real letdown and certainly doesn't get us close to getting a #2 scorer. In an ideal world, I'd love to package Duren as part of a trade to get one of MPJ or Murphy. I know that's not happening though and agree with you that he will be back most likely. Quote

But if he signs an offer sheet that we match, he gets a no trade clause for 1 year. So for the next year he would have to agree to any trade. If we just sign him without an offer sheeet being signed, we can trade him starting Dec 15th. Edited June 30 by Deleterious Quote
Deleterious Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 (edited) No surprises here. $165 million was their last projection. Duren's first year salary for a max deal would be roughly $41.24 million or put another way, 25% of the salary cap. Edited June 30 by Deleterious Quote
