Mize and Torres are worth WAY MORE to be TRADED than to stay on this team. Trade them now and look at next year and beyond. The Dodgers, Brewers, Rays, Braves are all on another level compared to the rest of the league. Don't waste the rest of this year. No point. Get stuff we can use for the next 5 years. 0 Point in keeping these guys. Disagree. Get to the playoffs, then it can happen. Quote

If that is your only goal, you are almost always going to be disappointed. I have enjoyed the last couple of months of baseball and would like it to continue. I also think there is value in the young players having something to play for. 7 Quote

I'd rather increase our chances next year and the next 5 after that by aquiring young players. Would you rather have a 30% chance of winning it next year and the next 5 after that, or a 3% chance this year? Detroit sports teams all suck because they can't commit to rebuilding right. Everyone wants to just "get to the playoffs and see what happens". How'd that work for the Tigers, Red Wings for the last decade and until the Lions and Pistons tore down and rebuilt, they finally had success. No more shortcuts. Suffer rest of year, get assets for the next decade that can actually help you WIN! No more of this pansy ass "let's get in and see what happens" bull****. The top tier teams are like major league teams. The rest of the league looks like Low A ball teams vs MLB teams. Do it right and next year and beyond you can actually cheer for a chance at legit winning. Quit half assing it. Quote

Building for the future but still keeping the team in playoff-worthy shape. It might be a little bit tricky after the trade deadline (talking 99.9% about the pitching...) But we'll see how that works out for the rest of the season when we see it. It might be just me... But I see this team making a run to take over our Division. Quote

Whoever makes it into the playoffs this season in the AL is going to have at least a small chance of making the World Series on that fact alone. Edited August 3 by mtutiger 1 Quote

The Tigers will never have a 30% chance of winning a World Series going into a season, not even close. I don't even think the Dodgers do. They are right around there now with a 10 game lead. Five years is a long time. They will have a completely different team in five years and you'll be talking about how much the Tigers can get if they trade Max Clark! Quote

Even with Skubal Dodger starting pitching could get pretty sketchy, especially for next season if Skubal decides not to sign there. Unlike Skubal, Skenes is still inexpensive and he'd be the ultimate insurance policy to save them getting into a bidding war with the Mets or Yank (etc) over Skubal. Quote

I don't know who/ how else we get a couple more dependable arms in the bullpen... But it's a definite need. 11 minutes ago, Tenacious D said: ... Ryan might be one. And yes. I think this is the best way to start it out with him... put him in the bullpen and let Fetter "Fetterize" him on a daily basis. I think he'll be a monster in the 'pen. And if he gets to the point where they want to start him... sobeit. Then they'll just need to find one more guy. But... I's be perfectly fine with leaving Ryan in the bullpen all of 2026. And worry about 2027 when we get there... Just my 2 cents. Quote

I see it too, because the league is weak and the additions of Clark, Valencia, Lee and Baez and an improved Tork can make up for the loss of Skubal. Take away too much pitching though and it's going to difficult. I hope they keep Mize. Quote

To me, if they trade anyone else, it should be Gleyber for the simple fact that he can walk at the end of the season and Hao Yu Lee can man second the rest of the season. Just wonder if he can bring much back bullpen wise that can be useful this season (I am skeptical). The fact that they can make a QO to Mize raises the bar some to trading him IMO. They shouldn't feel obliged to do it unless they really like an offer. Quote
1984Echoes Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Just for fun: Melton-Valdez start out next year as #1 / #2 starters... Who wins the last 3 spots and who gets stuck in the bullpen, between: Madden, Jobe, Montero, Ryan? Quote

1984Echoes Posted August 3 Posted August 3 BYB quoted my position almost verbatim: Link: Scouting the prospects traded to Detroit for Tarik Skubal | Bless You Boys "First reaction? This is a pretty good return, but the Dodgers managed to hold back their top couple of prospects. That’s alright, as they were loaded with top 100 prospects, but you can’t call this a fleecing of their system by any means. It’s just a good return in the range we expected. Perhaps if Tarik Skubal had been healthy and dominant all year as usual, the Tigers could’ve held out for a bit more. I would’ve preferred outfielder Mike Sirota instead of Hope, and I would’ve love to land right-handed pitching prospect Christian Zazueta rather than River Ryan or Brady Smith, but we’re splitting hairs to a degree..." Tenacious D Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Tigers currently have the 2nd best run differential in the AL with +63. Tweak the pen tomorrow and we might have a team that at least makes the rest of the season interesting. Just avoid rentals if trading any decent prospects. Quote

Once healthy and with sufficient ramp up, he's a lock for the rotation. If they can hold him back to the second half to limit his innings, one of the other guys (Ryan, Jobe) will need to move to pen so their innings can be limited. Edited August 3 by ICroupier Quote
