IdahoBert Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Montero just shrugs it off like it’s nothing. Es solo béisbol. I truly like this guy. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Surprised Montero is still out there, I figured 3 or 4 innings would be tops. Quote

Dan Gilmore Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Other than muffing the comebacker and the first inning HR, Montero was aces. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I know everyone will say look at his track record and his huge salary but, in my opinion, it's really unfair to the team keep Valdez in the starting rotation over Montero. This isnt the opposite of a knee jerk reaction, it's looking at their entire body of this season. So, go ahead, let me have it. 🫣🫣 Quote

It was posted somewheres around here within the last day or two. Flaherty to the IL allows for Montero to stay in the rotation for now. Quote

It’s impressive. 1 hour ago, IdahoBert said: The Cubs batters take good swings. They mean business. Fewer wussy popup swings. This is an impressive ball team. 26 pitch 1st for Montero. Actually... Montero's control was WAY, way off in the first. Several pitches missed the plate by more than a foot. Not fooling anyone with those... He ended up in several 3-2 counts and had to throw meatballs right down the middle to avoid walks. The Cubs didn't even have to try hard. Suzuki took advantage with his HR. Busch laced a centered fastball for a single... I was thankful he didn't put any air under that ball as I thought it was going to be a back-to-back. Even though he ran another 3-2 count or two... I could see his control improving quickly... His curveballs and I think it was a couple sinkers were the pitches missing by over a foot... at first. By the end of the first, he was zeroing in on the zone with his curves and sinkers. After that first inning, he threw about 55 pitches for 4 1/3 innings so nothing spectacular by the Cubs. Montero started pounding the zone, commanding his pitches, up/down, in/out, off the corner. Ended with 5 1/3 in 81 pitches, 3 hits 0 BB's and 8 K's. Oh, his last play he mishandled a bouncing comebacker but Sommers came in and got out of the inning with a DP. PS: I have Montero penciled in our rotation in 2027. Maybe I should use ink? I have watched this whole series and a few other cubs games this season and my assessment still stands that I like how their lineup approaches hitting. That approach plays well in the playoffs when you can wear down a pitching staff. Quote
