U.S. distances itself from pro-Ukraine incursion into Russia that involved American military vehicles

Quote

The United States has sought to distance itself from a dramatic raid into Russian territory by pro-Ukraine forces who appeared to use American equipment in their attack.

Ukraine has no plans to hit targets in Russia, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said in Germany, where Kyiv secured a big new defence aid package. "We are not attacking Russian territory," he said after talks in Berlin with Chancellor Olaf Scholz

So just to be clear Ukraine completely violated their oath that American weapons would not be used to attack Russia directly. Even if they were Russian nationals which is disputed. Ukraine promised multiple times American weapons would not be used to attack Russia.

Russia and China deepen economic ties amid surge in trade since Ukraine invasion

Quote

Russia and China have agreed to deepen investment in trade services, promote agricultural exports and boost sports cooperation, as Mikhail Mishustin, Russia’s prime minister, signed a set of bilateral agreements on a visit to Beijing.

Quote

Ben Bland, the director of the Asia-Pacific programme at Chatham House, said the G7 statements “underlined the deepening geopolitical divide between China and Russia on one side and the US and its allies on the other”.

Quote

On Tuesday, Mishustin said bilateral trade could reach $200bn this year, up from $190bn in 2022. Russian energy shipments to China are projected to rise by 40% this year, according to Interfax, a Russian news agency.

I’m not clear on whether this is actually bad for US and how much, but either way, I don’t know, I just can’t bring myself to become indignant over technical violations by a country trying to preserve its very existence.

So, should Russia distance itself everytime a Kalashnikov is used in a conflict around the World?   This is just BS and this guy knows he's slinging it.

Ukrainian Krab getting hit by a Russian loitering munition near Artemovsk/Bakhmut. They caught it out in the open likely while relocating. It catches fire and burns.

This is behind a paywall so I couldn't read the thing (yet).  I will say the thesis is sound.  Only by a demonstration of collective security based on international law and norms do you prevent rogue actors from naughty invasions.  The first level of deterrence is 'its wrong to do that'.

And if along the way, you scare the hell out of the rogue actor into thinking that they won't just be a pariah, they would be soundly defeated by superior western technology and the combined effects of our superior organization and training...well so much the better.  The second level of deterrence is 'we'd lose all our stuff if we do that'.

The third level of deterrence is 'if I do that, my regime will end and I'll end up like Qaddafi' but that's a bit too much to hope for at this stage.

German Investigators Find Nord Stream Evidence Points To Ukraine

Quote
  •

Seven months after explosions severed three of Russia’s four Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, German investigators are now pursuing leads that point to Ukraine as the responsible country. At the same time, a multinational consortium of European investigative journalists has also found leads pointing to Kiev.

According to The Times of London, Germany’s Federal Office of Criminal Investigation (BKA)

BKA investigators are now focusing on a yacht that sailed from the German port of Rostock weeks before the explosions. That 15-meter yacht — the Andromeda — was hired from a Polish company, and docked at a tiny Danish island near the blast site. Most strikingly, investigators found traces of “military-grade and underwater-deployable” explosives on the vessel.

Given the complexity of the operation, the BKA believes a government must have backed the undertaking, and has found evidence pointing to Ukraine,

Ukraine is losing 10,000 drones a month to Russian electronic-warfare systems that send fake signals and screw with their navigation, researchers say

Quote

A new assessment of Russia's military capabilities on the front line estimated that its forces were taking down about 10,000 Ukrainian drones every month.

Electronic warfare is a "critical component" of Russia's tactics and contributing to the staggering losses of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones, a report released Friday by the UK's Royal United Services Institute found.

Quote

The RUSI report said that along the roughly 750 miles of the conflict's front line, Russia maintained a major electronic-warfare system roughly every 6 miles.
