I tried to pop my ears several times. Then my left ear went COMPLETELY deaf. I can't even hear my finger in there. Just totally out and I am really scared. Has anyone ever had this happen. Could it be a really large clump of earwax? It's gonna be really hard to get into to see a specialist around the holidays and if it's SSD, they say the faster you deal with it and start taking steroids, the better your chances are of recovery. Ugh, sorry about that. Been there, done that. Sudden hearing loss in one ear is an emergency-so you should go to the ER. (I just googled it to make sure). If you can't or don't want to go to the ER: Do you have an urgent care center near you? If it's ear wax, most of them will be able to clean it out on the spot. Around here we have quite a few of them, including in pharmacies. I hope this gets better soon. Quote

Yeah, I am going to an UC or ER a little later today. I am really scared. I mean, it's TOTAL deafness. I can't even hear my own finger in my ear. I was stupidly messing around last wee with a Q-Tip to get some water out and I did accidentally push it too hard - so I am hoping it's that and not SSD or Meniere's. Sometimes there is no recovery for those. I work in radio, I need my hearing. If I lost hearing in both ears, I'd end it. I would not be able to live without hearing music. And I KNOW about not using a Q-Tip in your ear canal. I usually just use it around the outside to get water out, but I got careless. Edited Saturday at 04:46 PM by Motor City Sonics Quote

Hope you're able to get it fixed. I am with you on the music part. I haven't played in years but I did used to be a musician. Quote
oblong Posted Saturday at 08:07 PM Posted Saturday at 08:07 PM My doc always tells me I have a lot of wax. I got the solution and syringe and messed around with it. It made it worse until it resolved itself. There is a technique to it. He explained it again. I just haven’t followed thru with it. Sometimes if I turn my head a certain way it changes things for a little while. Quote

Today when I opened Facebook I got an urgent message from them saying they had removed a picture I had posted seven years ago from my profile and they said it was sexually exploitive of children. And it was was a picture of the scientist Carl Sagan making a joke about science where he says “If science was easy, they would call it your mom.” Which then and now I find hilarious. So here we have Meta hogging the water, and taxing the resources of communities building giant AI farms, and their artificial intelligence can’t even understand a joke that the dumbest person in every room would understand. That "urgent" message sounds like a scam. I hope you didn't click on anything inside of it. Quote

No wonder the solution made it worse. Quote

Urgent care didn't have the equipment to see the full ear, but there was very little earwax, but he thinks it's a perforated membrane, so sound goes in, goes through the hole and has nothing to bounce off of. It heals by itself, but I am still going to the specialist on Monday. I hope he's right. I know not to use Q-Tips like that. FAFO. 1 Quote
