oblong Posted Friday at 05:21 PM Posted Friday at 05:21 PM One of the few things my wife and I bicker about is I do this thing where as soon as you turn a light on inside, I close the curtains/drapes/blinds/etc. I have this hangup about people being able see inside my house, particularly from the front. The back I don't care so much about as we have a lot of coverage/privacy. She thinks I'm weird. Am i? At least in this context? It's especially bad now with the early nights. By 4:30 I'm shutting down. But I'm also the kind of person who doesn't really care if it's dark inside. We still have christmas stuff up and those lights throughout our rooms satisfies me. But if a lamp or overhead light is turned on.... close it up. 1 Quote
Tigermojo Posted Friday at 06:35 PM Posted Friday at 06:35 PM I'm the same way. Probably because growing up, we lived on a corner lot. The whole neighborhoods kids would cross our lawn staring right into the front window. Quote

We have a big picture window and we have always had some kind of drapes or blinds on it. But a funny thing is that a few years ago we were doing a bunch of redecorating and the we had taken down the drapery rods and had some work do to on the window, and it was probably like 18 month we had nothing on the window, and it became completely normal. Then eventually we put in a new blinds system, which we are back to closing pretty religiously when it gets dark. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 1 Quote

I have the same peeve about people being able to see into my house, and as soon as dusk start outside, down the shades go. Even the back shades, since I live in a dense city neighborhood and my dining room would be visible to at least half a dozen neighbors behind me. Quote
Biff Mayhem Posted Sunday at 04:27 PM Posted Sunday at 04:27 PM Yeah, we’re much the same way most times. My wife is adamant about it. We have a reflective tint on our front windows so, if it’s dark out, people outside can see silhouettes and what is on the tv but that’s it. Quote
Tigeraholic1 Posted Sunday at 11:37 PM Posted Sunday at 11:37 PM My oldest son flew back from the Peach bowl today. When he was leaving DTW he turned on his wipers and they were gone. He went to local parts store to buy a new set and the parts guy said it happens all the time over there. Quote

All I can picture are guys on the street with them sewn into sleeves inside their trenchcoats along with the knock off Rolexes. Quote

As soon as it's dusk, all shades get shut. If I look out my back door 45 degrees to the left is a neighbor, and completing the triangle, directly across from them and at 45 degrees to my right is our other neighbor, so I get it a little bit, but man does she get adamant (nice way to not say mad) that they get closed. "Look at that flexibility, that's fresh right there" as he's demonstrating the wipers blade. Seriously though, I do need new windshield wipers. If this is a thing and you 'maybe' know someone, please DM me. lol Edited yesterday at 03:08 AM by ewsieg Quote
Screwball Posted yesterday at 03:15 AM Posted yesterday at 03:15 AM OK, I'm old and stupid, but if I'm reading this right, people are stealing wiper blades off cars at the airport? I know the catalytic converter thing was a thing 🙂 but wipers? I can't imagine that many people could even change a wiper. Usually the guy at the parts store does it. Quote
Deleterious Posted yesterday at 03:19 AM Posted yesterday at 03:19 AM Is your son going to the national championship game? I need some dust caps for my car's tires. 2 Quote
chasfh Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Never seen any stories about a rash of windshield wiper theft. I would guess it’s a random prank. It happens. I went to the movies here in Big Shoulders maybe 20 or so years ago, came back out to my car, and someone had heaved a big ol’ rock through the passenger window. Nothing inside was stolen. Just random vandalism, I guess. Hasn’t happened since, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see something else equally random happen in the future. Quote

One way to drive sales. Quote

Screwball Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Back in the day...let me think...1972/1973. We had a place called Midnight Auto Supply - the local junk yard. We would go out there around midnight with a flashlight and some tools and steal auto parts we needed for our car. They didn't have a dog. Good thing. Junk yards were a big thing back then. There was a huge yard in Crestline, Ohio, home of Gates Brown. Quote
