I actually would be VERY interested in seeing what a 2nd line of Kasper-Danielson-MBN could do for a full NHL season. The 3rd line (mostly in the O-zone faceoffs and PP2) would be Cat-Copp-Finnie. Although my "2nd line" would have to start out as a 3rd line and EARN their way to #2... But I am anticipating that they will do just that (yes, I'm "projecting" just a wee-tiny-little bit here...). But that's just me.

With all those caveats every pick is BPA! I highly doubt a team decides to draft a position and then also decides to take the second highest rated player remaining at that position who doesn’t fit the culture. i would rather take the best player (with character and work ethic included in the rankings) and then trade a vet if a position is crowded rather than take a less talented player. I strongly feel that draft is where you get the best players you can while free agency and trades are where you target a position.

Yes, something is wrong with the culture. I don’t know what it is but the front office seems to function too much as a museum of the Red Wings dynasty. Ironically, short of a complete obliteration of the front office, Stevie is the only one who has a hope of managing this dynamic. I feel like he needs to bring in a hockey lifer from outside the franchise who can do the dirty work of holding some of the former Wings accountable. I wonder what Keith Tkachuk is up to these days. 😂

Duren is out but everyone else seems to be playing. A little shocked by that to be honest. Across the league, most people who are not playing for seeding or to qualify for post season awards is not playing today.

I'm very reluctant to re-post Jeff Moss of all people but, this one time, he makes a reasonable point.

On the plus side, Johansson has been great. It is intriguing that in both his North American stints so far his offense has greatly improved compared to his time in Sweden. If he shows some offensive touch that would be a huge boon for the Wings. He'd be what I hoped Wallinder was going to turn out to be so it would make that sting a lot less. Maybe it is just Red Wings depression but after watching that Augustine game I don't expect Buium to ever play in the NHL

You'd have to be "content" to not have one for a little as you rebuild. It would basically be admitting this rebuild has failed and they need another. It also seems like Danielson's back injury from the preseason has been lingering, he isn't even skating right now. Not great.

I think it is extremely likely that they take the best player on their board, who they believe is the most talent, is a cultural fit with this team, and still fits a position of need. I think anyone of OT, G, DE/Edge, DT, LB, and S are options for them with their first round pick. I do tend to lean towards the idea that they will take an offensive lineman, either a OT or G. But I don't think it is a slam dunk. I think they will have a wide open board. With Larry Borom on the roster, I think they genuinely view him as a starting RT for this coming season.
