  1. Past hour
  2. It's about racism but from the left. You notice how the left is always obsessed with the white working class? When they lose primaries after the blacks down south vote, the election was rigged. Gee, elections being rigged in areas with high black populations, that sounds familiar. Platner is selling the people of Maine a con like Trump. They are sacrificing everything they claimed were their principles for this guy the same way MAGA does for Trump.
  3. well whatever you want to call it, it is about giving people back a sense of control over their lives. IMO the greatest danger to the constitution order is people deciding they don't care about the niceties because it's not working for them anyway. What good is a constitution that's supposed to guarantee your liberty if you feel like you are living the life of a slave?
  4. Right, it has nothing to do with economic progressivism. I have not heard anything from Platner that is new or different. People on the left or giving up all their principles and what they claimed to care about to support this guy. It's Donald Trump but from the left. I couldn't have fathomed that a blackwater op who is against assault rifle bans who voted for Republicans would be the darling of the left.
  5. That's always been politics though - Lincoln may have been one of the more intellectual presidents we ever had, he ran as 'Rail Splitter Abe'. I think the only guys who are insulated from being dinged for being classy were the War heroes from WWII. I don't think a guy who talked like he was from Harvard and looked the part too as much as JFK would have a chance today, but the guy was a war hero who proved how much a grunt he could be by being blown out of the water and then swimming to safety with some poor wounded GI on his back. There is no way for a classy guy to buy those kind of Bona Fides with the everyday public today. Obama was an exception of course, but he was the exception to everything - maybe exactly because everything about his past argued he shouldn't be who he was?
  6. Yes, the left has turned into antisemites. They basically do six degrees of Israel. If a friend of friend of a filthy Jew donated to your campaign, you're not pure.
  7. BTW, AES now running on the fact that AIPAC is supporting his opponent as a positive campaign argument. Another measure of how much times have changed.
  8. Yes, that was Fetterman. Fetterman was an economic populist on the left. The problem with Platner is, he's a Republican who voted for Susan Collins. His whole working man persona is a lie. He's a grifter and opportunist. Now apparently we are supposed to just ignore everything because a guy with literally no experience comes on the scene saying all the right buzzwords and is an avatar of what people think white working class looks like. Biden was an economic progressive. He was old and boring. It's not about economic progressiveness, it's all about culture. Fetterman is a fat slob who looks like the typical MAGA voter. That was his appeal. Platner wears flannel and has a beaver's ass on his face so he's a manly man. They are both con men like Trump. People are ticked off at the party because they strip the Dems of their power and expect them to do something like there is just some magic trick they are refusing to do that would completely stop Trump. I have yet to hear any new ideas from these young candidates like Platner.
  9. I assume Kane will be back. I also assume that between a trade or FA signing, Stevie will either bring in a winger to play with Larkin and Raymond, or a center to play between Kane and ADB. (I prefer the latter because I hope MBN can become the former.) It would be fantastic if Chiarot can finally get bumped to the third pairing. But ASP needs a place to play in the NHL and he needs a reliable defenseman to be paired with and that is not Chiarot.
  10. Platner doesn't hide the things he disagrees with Progressives about. He's primarily an economic progressive. That's what the Dems have to coalesce around to win. Forget fighting on the culture stuff, hammer the economic and political oligarchy. David Brooks tends to be all over the map, but he wrote something recently that I think hits the nail spot on the head - the reason the vast majority of people in the US are so ticked off is the feeling of loss of empowerment. Everything in this country has gotten re-engineered to where it only serves the rich. Everyone else has to deal with a million indignities their parents never faced, from not being able to get a person on the phone at customer service to their votes being negated by gerrymandering, to not being able to afford a house, or even Disneyland, you can't afford to stay home and raise your kids, if you go to work you can't afford day care, and looming over all of it is that they are afraid to get sick or lose a job because the path to upward mobility has been blown to smithereens. Don't get pulled into winless debates about who is more at fault in the ME, or the border, or your preferences about transgender athletes or defunding the police, you can not win there.
  11. Yeah, but Jahmai's mom called and she's pissed that her boy isn't getting enough ABs. I'd rather have Ben Malgeri on this team than Jones or Perez right now. I know Clark has gotten ice cold in Toledo (which was expected), but Ben can play all 3 OF positions. He hits right-handed. Maybe he can provide SOMETHING. This team is just lethargic right now. I know there's a lot of injuries, but come on man.........Zack Short? What good is having that RH bat in the lineup if he can't hit anyone? I think most platoon guys even hitting on their weak side are better than that guy. And yes, Perez is a lot like Raburn. He can play a lot of different spots, but none of them well. Zack Short's career. .170 BA .271 OBP .294 SLG .565 OPS 58 OPS+ Average Fielder. Welp, he's better than Ray Oyler
  12. Today
  13. When you see Republicans talk about things like this, take it seriously. This will be their next step.
  14. Fetterman 2.0. Progressives will pretend they never supported him and he was the conservative Dem.
  15. Exactly. Like, how is this even debatable?
  16. I don’t disagree. But they seem hell bent on keeping him around despite the slim skill set he has. Actually, I wonder if there’s too much pride in keeping players of his ilk around too long. He was successful in his role as DH vs LHP last season. Great. In the grand scheme of roster build, how valuable is that given other concerns with the roster? What are the odds of a duplicate season?
  17. No doubt. Just looking at performance to date isn't enough. And you you can't really base it on what has happened long-term in AAA for a couple of reasons. There is a very different level of talent between MLB and AAA. Also, there is so much turnover in AAA that pitchers might not get a chance to adjust.
  18. any decision driven by how much Jahmai Jones plays is a mistake.
  19. yeah - it's weird isn't it?. I think if you take all the data together - his swing is pretty similar, he's seeing the ball better - which implies he's now quicker - able to wait longer, but as you note, despite having the same swing plane, and same pull %, his launch angle is significantly down. So I guess the conclusion is the stance change has shifted the relation between where his eyes are and where the bat is and he hasn't quite adjusted to that. He 'just' needs to swing a little lower than his eyes are used to telling him he should. That's why fiddling with the way you bat is so terrible - you can make a change that fixes a bunch of things but if it changes one other thing you can't fix, you are screwed. Can Colt make the adjustment? Nobody knows. But we are going to find out.
  20. No, they don’t have to hide Harden’s bad defense. 😆 I do wonder if he’s just at the point in his career where he is going to show wear and tear on both sides of the ball in the playoffs. Give him some credit, he’s played 70+ games the last three regular seasons and playoffs on top of that. But if it’s going to lead to him being ineffective on the offensive side, then there’s nothing for Cleveland to do with him but run the offense through other guys and use him as an alternative option. Probably not what they were hoping for when they traded for him. Hopefully the Piston defense travels. It’s just so damn glorious to watch it when it’s clicking. I’m a defense first fan, I find it more fascinating to watch. And seeing Thompson flying all over the place in this playoffs has been an absolute joy. Seeing that translate to other Pistons at times has been fun to see, too. And Holland and his bit of havoc off of the bench. Sure, this team is going to be heavily dependent upon Cunningham. But grind the opponent down along the way. Make them struggle to score, force them to use energy on both sides of the court.
  21. I just wonder how Tiger pitching health is compared with other teams over the past several seasons. This is at the major league level and minor league levels. It’s probably difficult to get an accurate read if what the Tigers do throughout the system is more or less impactful on arm health vs the rest of baseball.
  22. Might as well get back to winning a game.
  23. His contract doesn’t suggest that he’s someone to build around. It’s potentially longer term, but it’s at a nominal salary. While @gehringer_2 brings up a valid point (and I’m paraphrasing loosely) about offering the contract but then not playing him, it’s not an onerous deal on the money side. But they’ve got a roster spot wrapped up with someone they appear to only want to platoon. I think they’ve gotten a little too platoon happy. They’ve got some versatile players. But now we see that versatility is robbed when those players are missing. And then you realize that the players with no versatility really need to be everyday players. A guy like Jones doesn’t help when he can only play a nominal amount of OF. And he’s tied somewhat directly to Carpenter. And then strictish platoons of Keith/Lee at 3B forces the Tigers to carry a guy like Short to cover middle IF. And this doesn’t even get into potentially playing Dingler a bit much because they need his bat in the lineup. Sure, he’s young. But the innings behind the plate are going to add up quickly. They should figure out a way to DH him a bit more, but that cuts into Jones’ time at DH.
  24. Nice inflation, gas prices, war and unconstitutional doge bro nailed that vote
