  3. I have a hard time believing the Ku story about them sitting JB down after game 1. You don't do that then turn around and extend him. If it is true, its some serious incompetence from management.
  4. I legitimately wonder how much of this will go toward the establishment of a nationwide militia answerable only to him, for which they will have ready-to-go recruits who are at least somewhat battle-tested.
  5. Depending on how things shake out, I’m real curious to see what his plan for the pitching rotation is going to end up being once we get near the deadline if we aren’t trending back up towards a playoff run. Obviously what happens with Skubal is critical, but what do we do with Mize? He might actually have a ton of value at the deadline if he’s pitching like he has been due to his pay and future signability vs teams that will be in on Skubal. If we end up down Skubal, Mize and then Flaherty….. what on Earth do we do for next season? Can we really just assume it’s going to work with Framber, Melton, Jobe, Olson and Keider? If you think this year is bad, wait till next year when 3/5 of that rotation is on the DL all at the same time.
  6. I am very happy that Harris turned them into an analytic organization. That is a huge step. Whether or not he is just a run of the mill analytic GM or whether he is a really good analytic GM remains to be seen. I am not sure there is much he can do at the deadline, but, in general, I am waiting see how creative and aggressive he gets in the future.
  7. Problem is 44% K in A ball makes AA a dead end unless the issues are addressed.
  8. I don’t understand the people talking like Keith is this poor player who is irredeemable now. He’s 24 and he had a nice step forward from his rookie year to his 2nd year and this year you can tell he’s made some adjustments to improve contact but it hasn’t clicked yet….and he’s still getting on base and hitting for average. The problem with Keith is that they’ve invested the years and money with him but aren’t investing in him on the field. Let the guy play most every day and let him play a singular position. In 2 1/3 seasons we’ve already tried to move him defensively 3 times and he almost never gets to start if there’s an LHP. Let him play and bat him at the bottom of the lineup vs LHP if you have to. He’s young enough with a high enough ceiling to justify it. Pinch hit for him vs tough lefties in clutch situations if you have to, but let him try and develop the skillset
  9. I am not interested in calling guys up from the minors whom the organization believes require proper seasoning to play at an MLB level consonant with The Tigers’ Way. I’m not interested in acts of desperation derived from frustration.
  10. Not sure if the link will change after it's over, but here's the presser happening now.
  11. They were hitting fine as a team before all the injuries, so bringing back Torres, Carpenter and Baez would surely help. bringing back Meadows and Baez would also help their abysmal defense. None of them are great players, but they are better than Short, Perez, Lee and Jung. Losing Skubal kind of hurts too.
  12. It's nice to get picks 2, 4, and 1 in the last three drafts including the best player to come out since Lebron. Hopefully they're at least sending a basket of fruit and some flowers to Adam Silver every week.
  13. Today
  14. A perennial first team All Defense wing or the second coming of Ayton/Drummond who can get rebounds/dunks during the regular season but is mediocre on the defensive end? No-brainer. Allen and Carter outplay him in the playoffs. We saw other smart teams like the Celtics neutralize Duren in the regular season as well. The message was probably, "Hey, just box this guy out." Any lob threat could give you 80% of what Duren gives you in the regular season with better defense added into the bargain. A choice between Duren and Ausar is no choice at all. The answer is Ausar every day and the only person thinking twice about it is apparently JB. Ku has had a number of episodes where he seems to have info that others don't have or won't talk about because they're too busy brown nosing the organization/players (Omari). At this point there's enough smoke that he probably does have someone on the inside. The story really makes sense when you think about JB's handling of Ausar compared to other players. The fact that the front office had to have "a talk" with JB after that first playoff game is just another example of his incompetence. How they extended him after that I'll never understand. Maybe just Gores doing Gores things. Either way, if Trajan is the guy in the Ausar camp, then he has the right idea. Luckily he's also the one making the contract deals, not JB, so maybe there's hope.
  15. If he can hit like Keith and be a great defensive shortstop, then he will be very valuable.
  16. I don’t blame Hinch much for any of it. All he can do is take the roster of guys that he has and try to put them in the best position to succeed. His decisions make sense for the most part. Injuries have really cramped his ability to do some of that though. Even with Harris- If you look at the team on paper, you’d think we’d have 3-4 legit power threats in Tork, Greene, Carpenter and Keith. A good glove defensive catcher who is above average offensively. A couple of guys who play high level defense up the middle in Javy and Meadows, a solid veteran bat in Torres, and the best positional prospect the Tigers have had since Al Kaline. That SHOULD be enough. Injuries have hurt—but the problem with Harris’ approach here has been that there’s no contingency on what to do if guys on the team regress at all. The bench and 40-man depth is nothing but super one-dimensional guys, and the lack of making any trades to bring in guys with protectable skill sets and MLB caliber ceilings. It seems like all of our roster moves are due to someone coming off the disabled list or going on it. There’s almost never a promotion or demotion based on performance. I’m mostly Harris positive, but my opinion of him as GM will be HIGHLY affected by how he handles this trade deadline and then the offseason (depending on lockout)
  17. That is already known to be true. Lack of brain function contributes to dementia.
  18. The Spurs starting 5 last night made $65 million combined this season. That is about 42% of the salary cap.
  19. A) that tweet is awfuly written. B) POD described it better in the comments
  20. His stats in 2026 are OBP .311 - SLG .371 - Now again he's very young, so power may develop.
  21. Analytics is exactly what you want to use long term. You lost that argument a long time ago. I guess short-term, you could try different things, but there aren't a hell of a lot of options right now. Or they could fire Hinch and Harris and bring in some old school guys that will shake things up and play the hunches?
  22. I just love how the public falls for these non-sequitor arguments. *if* you actually could prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon with all this noise, they you could argue about the value of that vs gas prices. But the premise is false. We couldn't prevent Pakistan from developing a weapon, we couldn't stop India from developing a weapon, we couldn't even stop N. Korea from developing a weapon. If a country as large and well educated and financial sound as Iran wants a weapon, they will get it. They could already have had one by now it they had really wanted a program that was more than a bargaining chip for them. The objective truth is the only real way to stop Iran from eventually developing a weapon is for them to decide they don't need one - that the costs aren't worth the payoff. You sure as heII don't accomplish that by attacking them constantly.
  23. I don’t expect much out of Jung, but they haven’t really given him much of a legit chance—at least compared to a few other guys who continually underperform. Jung can play 1B/3B if we need him to and has a good minor league track record of plate discipline. We need that during a time when multiple legitimate starters are out. There’s no reason to be playing Perez or Workman over Jung.
