  1. Past hour
  2. In general, I think players win and lose games, but there are exceptions. Hinch's management in 2024 was brilliant.
  3. exactly - there was a system of carrots and sticks that made it in their interest to just string the development along without actually going there. The incentives at that time made a half completed program more advantageous to them than a completed one as it brought the carrots. Take all that away and there is no advantage to not completing the program.
  4. I am of the mindset that players win games amd managers lose them. Just look at last year's game 7 in the world series where Schneider overmanaged his team into a loss. I know Hinch and Harris want to win with a bunch of fringe and role players to prove how they are next level genius, but it's not happening. Talent is the key factor in winning.
  5. Jung is closer to a DFA than a callup.
  6. We’ve already been batting him 8th. I’d argue he’s a throw-in at best right now anyway with how poor his defensive metrics have been.
  7. I don't know much about Malgeri but I would bet that if we brought him up and handed him the job, we'd be agitating to run him out of town on a rail within the space of a couple weeks. Speaking of running guys out of town, if the organization were to start a campaign to put Tork on the clock for the purposes of running him out of town in a trade by batting him ninth and then optioning him out, we'd be reducing his trade value to that of throw-in at best.
  8. Yep...
  9. Trump endorsing Paxton is a major victory for Democrats. Paxton still might beat Talarico, because it is Texas afterall. But this is about as big a gift as Democrats could get.
  10. I think folks need to pump the brakes on promoting Anderson until he has a better than 2% walk rate in AAA.
  11. I'm out of reactions, but Thanks. The main thing I will push back on is the implication that Harris had (has) an open canvas to bring in any players he wants that remakes this organization in a 180 fashion immediately. There are no All-Stars or top prospects or even players well-rounded in every aspect of the game that he can just go out and acquire at low cost. The costs will be high, whether it's trading Max-plus for a top arm or bat, or spending big money on a free agent, and even then, free agents have agency, which means they can say no to however much money Harris/Ilitch at throw at them if they prefer a better (win-now) situation in a market more to their liking. And for anyone who believes that other teams will definitely compete to empty out the top of their farm systems for two months of Skubal, try it in reverse: in a still-winnable division, we could use an elite pitcher ourselves. The Diamondbacks are scuffling and might be willing to sell Corbin Burnes, the other elite pitcher who can opt for free agency this winter. Who in our system will you give up to get Burnes on board for the last two months and, hopefully, the playoffs?
  12. Normally I’d agree, but with Skubal on his way out and Mize becoming a free agent as well…and having already dropped a big contract on Valdez….this is a season that needs to pay off because there’s going to be a bit of rebuilding to do unless Illitch is going to pony up cash to keep these guys and run it back. They built a team to win the division this year and it’s still early enough to right the ship. I can see not calling Clark up, but other guys aren’t being looked at as major future pieces so it’s worth the risk of a stunted development.
  13. First year salary for #20 is $3 million. Teams can, and almost always do, go over that by 20%. So #20 pays $3.6 million in the first year.
  14. Rainer missed a bunch of time last year, and only has about 250 career ab's, so hopefully he makes a little more contact as the year progresses. Plus it has been cold as he$% in GR this spring. Going through our top propsects the only one doing well is Max Anderson.
  15. Will they be vetted for competency in militia participation? I'm guessing yes. Next will be Russians.
  16. Another objective truth is that we already had Iran in a box, severely limited in the ability to enrich the uranium for use in a nuclear weapon and subject to regular inspections to ensure compliance, and this Putin acolyte completely let them off the hook for all of it, or at the very least, helped collapse the deal’s restraints and transparency regime.
  17. Today
  18. Holy Frijoles
  19. I have a hard time believing the Ku story about them sitting JB down after game 1. You don't do that then turn around and extend him. If it is true, its some serious incompetence from management.
  20. I legitimately wonder how much of this will go toward the establishment of a nationwide militia answerable only to him, for which they will have ready-to-go recruits who are at least somewhat battle-tested.
  21. Depending on how things shake out, I’m real curious to see what his plan for the pitching rotation is going to end up being once we get near the deadline if we aren’t trending back up towards a playoff run. Obviously what happens with Skubal is critical, but what do we do with Mize? He might actually have a ton of value at the deadline if he’s pitching like he has been due to his pay and future signability vs teams that will be in on Skubal. If we end up down Skubal, Mize and then Flaherty….. what on Earth do we do for next season? Can we really just assume it’s going to work with Framber, Melton, Jobe, Olson and Keider? If you think this year is bad, wait till next year when 3/5 of that rotation is on the DL all at the same time.
  22. I am very happy that Harris turned them into an analytic organization. That is a huge step. Whether or not he is just a run of the mill analytic GM or whether he is a really good analytic GM remains to be seen. I am not sure there is much he can do at the deadline, but, in general, I am waiting see how creative and aggressive he gets in the future.
  23. Problem is 44% K in A ball makes AA a dead end unless the issues are addressed.
  24. I don’t understand the people talking like Keith is this poor player who is irredeemable now. He’s 24 and he had a nice step forward from his rookie year to his 2nd year and this year you can tell he’s made some adjustments to improve contact but it hasn’t clicked yet….and he’s still getting on base and hitting for average. The problem with Keith is that they’ve invested the years and money with him but aren’t investing in him on the field. Let the guy play most every day and let him play a singular position. In 2 1/3 seasons we’ve already tried to move him defensively 3 times and he almost never gets to start if there’s an LHP. Let him play and bat him at the bottom of the lineup vs LHP if you have to. He’s young enough with a high enough ceiling to justify it. Pinch hit for him vs tough lefties in clutch situations if you have to, but let him try and develop the skillset
  25. I am not interested in calling guys up from the minors whom the organization believes require proper seasoning to play at an MLB level consonant with The Tigers’ Way. I’m not interested in acts of desperation derived from frustration.
  26. Not sure if the link will change after it's over, but here's the presser happening now.
