Right. I want to circle back to this because I think this is a great example of how scouts project a player and often times fans don't necessarily understand why they're quick to tag a guy in a certain role or limit their potential in a write-up, instead of just assuming growth where they need it. With a guy like Flores, I'm not going to project the CV to develop much because I don't have any evidence in the current profile of him being able to manipulate the ball in the way he needs to in order for the CV to step forward. Right now the arsenal has a fastball and cutter, which let's be honest is just a variation on the fastball with grip or finger pressure changes. The CV currently doesn't have the type of spin rate to suggest he's got "it" to snap it off down the line. If, let's say, he threw a competent slider or even a changeup (though this would be a tougher leap), then I have evidence that he can spin or manipulate SOMETHING. In that case, I'm going to at least consider projecting advancement of the CV, maybe not much but some. Instead, I'm left with a fastball pitcher that doesn't yet generate the spin necessary for success with the CV. On top of that, even if he shifts to a slider and somehow finds success, he still doesn't have anything with a significant vertical component. Without that, he's generally working in at best just the vicinity of one plane, maybe actually in just one plane, so he has to demonstrate ability to change planes with location consistently. All that combined, a fastball/cutter arm that needs to elevate to change sight lines instead of utilizing pitch movement, and not seeing any substantial ability to spin the ball, leaves him with a relief profile (for me, anyway). If he breaks the expected path he's on and suddenly finds more spin as he develops, then that's a substantial profile change that necessitates revisiting the overall projection. I'd adjust that projection if that happens, but as it stands now it wouldn't be prudent to project anything more than relief in his future.2 points

My wife Mary (27th anniversary was a couple of weeks ago) has breast cancer. She found out she had it on the same day she found out that I likely gave her Covid, in late April. She was detected early, thank god, but it took 2 surgeries for them to get rid of the cancer, and now she is going through chemo. She's now more than halfway done with the chemo, so she's rounding 2nd base in a way. We are holding up well. It's been a big help having my son home during this trying time. We appreciate any thoughts and prayers. Thank you.1 point

Didn't see the game but it looks like the Lions the lost at the buzzer again. There has to be no bigger guarantee in all of sports than a kicker lining up for a game winning field goal against the Lions. The Goal post might as well be 2 miles wide cause either way you know it's going to be good.1 point

People ragging on Aaron Glenn's defense are just being emotional. With the talent he has I am impressed teams aren't scoring 40-50 on us weekly.1 point

I don’t see how allowing COVID to run wild by denying its very existence, shedding tens of millions of jobs from the economy, opening cozying up the foreign dictators, denying his own administration’s intelligence services, appointing obviously dangerously unqualified people (including family) to top jobs in his administration, openly encouraging violent racists to act, accepting emoluments because of his position as President, calling political opponents middle-school insult names, pitting states against each other for government relief, withdrawing from key international treaties, openly undermining an election still in progress, and promoting a general policy of maximizing cruelty toward people different from himself, qualifies him as being “the lesser of two evils”.1 point

Big Ben throws one TD and he's now "The Ageless". No, throw enough passes and eventually you'll get one. He's aged. He's very aged...............and he's a rapist.1 point

I'm not sure Semien gets a long term deal. If he gets one, it better not be with the Tigers. I think Correa and Seager get career ending contracts. Story probably does as well. And by career ending, I'm talking through age 36/37. They may have a handful of seasons afterwards, but certainly these contracts will use up the rest of their prime and go into the downsides of their career curves. Semien, Baez, and Taylor are going to be interesting cases. Three or four year deals? I guess that gets Taylor to 35, so maybe he is kind of in the previous paragraph, but he's already 31 and hasn't really established himself as an everyday SS. Looking at Baez again, and his offense might look better than I think his reputation suggests, but that probably depends upon how one weighs OBP. Simmons, Gavlis, and Iglesias (I guess we can toss the last two into the conversation) are going to be year-to-year, maybe a year with an option of some sort.1 point

Whoever was in office would have lost that many jobs or more because of covid. A democrat POTUS probably would have lost more because they were more in favor of shutting things down and giving people more benefits for sitting home and not working. You have to look at what the economy and job situation was like under Trump before covid. The economy was booming, stock markets soaring and unemployment at all time low. Then covid happened. I get that a lot of people don't like Trump but still need to look at things realistically. I know he's a dipschmidt (my spelling is off) but under his presidency some good things did happen that a lot of people liked and our country benefited from.1 point

Has anyone seen Halt and Catch Fire? Most known to me is Lee Pace but there are 4 main characters centering around the developments of the PC, Laptops, online gaming, Internet, etc... And the drama and characters are off-the-charts amazing. It's less about computers, etc. and more about the characters themselves. I'm starting season 4 (out of 4) and I am completely transfixed. It's a great show (Netflix...).1 point

I know Kevin Goldstein. I worked with his wife Margaret at a website downtown in the early 2000s. He came by to visit her once, I happened by her cube, and she introduced me. I told him I was a huge Tigers fan and had read his stuff on BP. He seemed generally unimpressed. That was my encounter with Kevin Goldstein.1 point
