  1. Craig Monroe makes me miss Rod Allen. That's how bad he is... lol

  2. Whoever put the two of them in the same booth with such similar sound was a sonic moron. When you can't identify the two sides of a conversation it's very disorienting to listen to, even if the conversation might have made sense. So that was one strike. And of course the other was that there had been no reason to make the change. Either of them might have succeeded as a member of a new team here if Ernie had retired voluntarily, because we recognized we couldn't replace him. But for someone else to be there when Ernie was still available and still perfectly capable was completely unacceptable. That strike two was so big that you didn't need a strike three.

  3. In scoring 3 runs total in three games in warm summer weather in a band box like WhoseverRate Field, the Tigers met quite a standard in offensive futility.

  4. This. Especially with this team. The best we can realistically hope for is stretches of 4-6, followed by 6-4, then a 5-5… pray for an 8-2 at some point and no 1-9 and end up with 84-85 wins, at best. The very best teams will lose 1/3 of the games. Sometimes on twitter I think some people get way too negative. It’s a marathon.

  5. He is only 25, but everything else you say applies. I'd say he is pretty well developed already and is a good reliever, but he's a reliever. I think he's a good trade candidate. I have seem some say they would never trade a good pitcher with four years of control remaining, but years of control seems pretty irrelevent for relievers.

  7. And offensive production from the IF is just making the Paredes move burn all the more. 811 OPS. When you know you could have been be better if you had just done nothing it's all the more frustrating.

  8. Sure they can. The kind that sit around watching Fox News all day thinking everyone is coming to get them. Always the victim, right? FOX NEWS: Hey, remember when you could hit your women, threaten gays and keep all "those people" out of your neighborhood, and nobody could stop you? Well you can't anymore - they're all coming to get you, you'd better arm yourself, there might be a black 7th grader selling candy for football helmet money or a lesbian food deliverer, Oh, the Humanity !!!!!! Hey, old white guy, nobody wants you. They don't care about our demo (I am 58 years old, we're over, we're through, we're the has-beens and the way we've treated everyone we should be) The only thing targeted to us is medicare ads on daytime TV (Christ, do they have enough of those?). You can keep your suburban castle and stupid lawn........nobody's coming to take those away. Nobody wants it. I hope someone walks on his lawn now - all he can do now is turn a hose on them and when it's 90 and humid, that's actually not a punishment.

  9. It's not just Detroit, I've seen it in other cities as well (caugh, Chicago) Sports fans and media can be very tough and critical of outsiders. Anyone who replaced Harwell in that situation was bound to fail.

  13. they probably weren't as bat as I remember, but they were five step downs from Harwell and they no hope of ever being embraced by Tigers fans.

  18. He might have. Just because he couldn't hit the breaking ball didn't mean he wasn't one of the more athletic players to put on a Tiger jersey.

  19. While football is being brought into the discussion, I will say that I think sometimes baseball fans misconstrue the magnitude of game by game results from football onto baseball. A loss is much more of a severe penalty in football than it is in baseball because of the number of games played. A loss in baseball sucks, but there are 161 other games to play. Plus, we're Tiger fans. A loss shouldn't surprise us the past several years.

  20. I still like that cartoon where one guy says "the economy created 100,000 jobs last month" and the other one says "I know, I have 3 of them".

  21. Anybody here who's thinking of supporting Russia, just remember that they have a long history of hating baseball, which de facto makes them a country of unmitigated evil.

  22. So, it's 1:30am and in the parking lot of suburban mall there are a series of gun shots............cars screeching, more gun shots and a loud clap of electricity and a van carrying Libyan terrorists crashes into a Photomat and the Photomat explodes and either the Libyans just give up or they're all killed in the van crash and the cops never show up? Hill Valley, California Police in 1985.........that's a major fail ! Sorry, HILL Valley. Mill Valley is where BJ was from on MASH.
