  2. What is becoming incredibly obvious, to me, is that we have one of the greatest pitching coaches in modern baseball history. Seriously. Not only have they cobbled together something with 2 or 3 starters, but it's been good, it's been run nearly flawlessly. But the other thing is that you see guys with so so numbers in the minors come up and they are pitching better than expected and he's got a lot to do with that. I have already seen his name mentioned for the White Sox managerial job and you know he is going to be one of the hot names this offseason. Let's hope he pulls a Ben Johnson and stays.

  3. Oh boy. Tigers live is next. Two and three minute stretches of ads interrupted by a few seconds of remarks. Maybe it’s hard to scramble and get things together and they’re just killing time. It’s not like they want to give us ads. I chewed my nails down to the point. I was bleeding waiting to find out who won “pick the stick.” Thank God there’ll be two or three minutes of ads so I can gather myself and be prepared for what comes next. The excitement is exhausting.

  4. And Andy Dirks played for Tommy Brookens. He speaks highly of him.

  12. If they want to do interviews in the stands with fans, do it during commercial breaks. Nothing is more irritating than listening to some lady ask very stupid questions to a stranger while there's on-field action happening. It's like...shut up already!

  14. It is really infuriating how much Netanyahu has been able to elide any sort of scrutiny for politicking and back-channeling with Trump when actual lives are at stake. It gets exhausting calling out the failures of the press, but this is another one

  21. Damn good question. If there is one unintended effect of all the changes in media since the three network days, it's the loss of people/institutions in the media with proven credentials and widely accepted integrity who you could rely on to be fundamentally trustworthy. And even non-profit media like NPR, where you would assume the lack of profit motive would insulate them from the worst effects, has also gone off the rails in the last few years, though nothing on a par with commercial media. Now TBF, I think most mainline newspapers are still good sources for primary events coverage, you just have to ignore everything where they are writing opinion. Technical press in any given field is usually trustworthy. But I came across one today that just made me scratch my head. WaPo story about the US/Iraqi raid on some ISIS targets where some US personnel were wounded. It was fairly straight up news reporting right through to the last paragraph, where the writer just inserts "Iraqi's oppose the continued presence of US troops" Bang. Just an assertion of what, since there was not a shred of evidence supplied, is simply an opinion. Not even "most Iraqi's we have talked to" or anything. So maybe that is true - probably is, but maybe not - I'm sure it depends on who in Iraq you ask. I'm sure the Iraqi military doesn't feel that way. But regardless of whether they are right or wrong it just violated every rule of good journalism to not keep fact reporting and unsupported opinion assertion separate, and immediately made me question whether anything related in the paragraphs above was trustworthy. That's where we are in today's journalism.

  23. Jays thumping Twins 11-0. I won’t actually cheer for the Jays, but since Tigers need Twins to lose I approve of this thumping

  25. Nobody actually sits in front of the TV waiting for Tigers Live to start, do they? Because Bally Sports plays what must be literally nine minutes of commercials in the first ten minutes between end of game and beginning of Tigers Live.

  27. A long time ago the goal stopped being "good and creative ideas" and became "what is the most surefire idea to make a profit" Deadpool & Wolverine wouldn't have even happened if Ryan Reynolds and his team didn't leak the initial Deadpool film's test footage. But let's make more Godzillas, Halloweens, and animated nonsense that was never meant for more than its initial story.

  34. I was 32 in 1984, so I was basically older than almost everybody on the team except for Evans and Wilcox. And although nobody’s ever accused me of being athletic, I’m not doing half bad compared to these guys.

  36. Lemon hit .300 three times in six seasons with the White Sox. He never reached .300 with the Tigers. But his power numbers increased, not surprisingly. Good ole ballpark effects.

  37. McCann hits the magical 10 years of service time mark which guarantees you the full MLB pension for life. Considering he was never a premium prospect, got off to a rough start in the majors and plays the most taxing position in the sport I can't imagine he wouldve thought he'd make it this long and have this type of career.
