Schools that get to select their students do well. one reason public schools always score worse than private is because they have to take every student. Many students have disabilities across the board along with language barriers and horrible home lives. Many are homeless. It might surprise you to find out they don’t do as well. They also cost more to take care of. So when you callously speak about bloated budgets you should understand what much of that money goes to. It’s not an apples to apples comparison. 60-70 years ago these kids were discarded and thrown into institutions and forgotten about. You know…back in the “good old days”. It takes a special kind of cruelty to ignore our most vulnerable kids and citizens but with today’s GOP that’s ultimately the point isn’t it?

I have no problems with the school. My GS is doing quite well and is the star of the school's Quiz Team (he's in 7th grade). From the way my son talks they are paying full tuition.

It’s really going to be ok. Give it a chance instead of all the sky is falling fear mongering we see here. We have almost made it through the term of one of the worst POTUS ever. Trump and his administration are planning to do a lot to make the country and the world a safer place and put more money in the pockets of Americans. He is not going to outlaw or do anything to abortion. He’s actually going to help women by eliminating men competing in women’s sports at all levels. The only thing the far left has to legitimately complain about at this time is there will not be elimination of free speech and nothing is going to be cancelled because someone’s feeling are hurt. These are traits of facism the left have embraced so well. On January 20 you might have something to complain about but until then enjoy life. The country is going to be so much better and safer.

I have a niece who teaches in one of the poorest counties in Virginia (Westmoreland County), the area is fairly similar to Michigan's Thumb region above Bay City. There is one private school about 30 miles away. She has stories to tell about some of their kids and backgrounds that break your heart. What do you tell them? One of the problems is not just funding or underfunding a school system, but making sure parents are also equipped to handle the situations. Many of these folks have no clue on parenting because they were never taught. It takes more than money and the states and Feds have never addressed the problem efficiently.

My daughter is almost done with college. We only qualified for vouchers her senior year of HS. We paid 8K out of pocket each year for HS and $3500 when she was K-8. My son is in HS and we only pay 2K out of pocket w/voucher covering the rest. We also offer a 403B plan. It used to be for college only, now you can apply it to K-12. We saved like crazy when the kids were young to pay for tuition. I don't think we ate out for six years straight at one point.

Michigan has vouchers and I would move back in a heartbeat.... I just don't think it's good policy and, contrary to what you are saying, there are clear winners and losers. It's benefits are not universal.

Define public in your world. Full transparency, my grandson goes to a parochial school. His parents are fine with paying tuition (we really don't discuss it). It's their choice, I'm fine with it. I also don't live in their community

Vouchers are working great in Indiana and growing. We don't have many charter schools here 98% are religious shools most offering PK-12.

Conversely, what do you say to the kids who live in places like I grew up in (rural, 30 miles from the nearest city of significance, school district one of the largest employers in town) where voucher dollars suck money out of the local school systems and subsequently lower the quality for everyone not lucky enough to have the opportunity to get into a charter school? I understand the pros of vouchers, but let's not pretend that their impacts play out as a net plus for everyone in society.

I don't know that it's a question of style as much as it's a question of timing. Is this the right time to spend $30 million on a player? Are we at the point where the roster as currently constructed can be expected to get into the playoffs, and a $30 million guy is what we need to go deep into October?

I do not see the Tigers spending $20-$30 million on any one player. That is not their style. No Bregman.. No Santander. No Walker. However, their are still some options out there.

I meant more so the impact on the city. Just like how 770,000 people attended the draft, I think you’re looking at hundreds of thousands flooding New Orleans to be a part of the action, even if they’re not going to the game.

If you look at the way Harris ended up at the top of the D ticket, it does raise questions about the expectations of success. She was the first out in the 2020 primary. She wasn’t moving the needle at all and wisely dropped out. She was hand picked because of her gender and color to be the 2020 VP. And lastly, Harris was literally handed the top of the ticket to defend in the general election. She was never “elected” for anything after leaving the senate. Yes, she was elected with Biden in 2020, if that’s any consolation. In my opinion the Biden administration never gave her any real responsibilities that would allow her to pad her resume. Being serious, this jumps out at me. I wonder if this combination of circumstances had ever occurred in a presidential race before. I would doubt it.

I doubt it, but I don't know. I preferred to vote for the candidates (lumping in VPs as well) with some actual redeeming characteristics about them that I might not agree with on certain policies as opposed to a candidate with no redeeming qualities that I might agree with on a few policies.

Out of sight, out of mind…. they can have a clean conscience. Vouchers are a scam. Taxes aren’t linked to people. If it were the DoD wouldn’t have a budget.

the approach was mostly wrong. If you want to slow the flow, the people coming need to understand they can't stay, not that it's harder to get across - there will always be ways to get across. And in fact we have little problem interdicting people who do cross, it has been that the process after they are interdicted is broken. The dems sort of went along with theoretical discussion that border 'security' was the problem because they didn't want to face changing the asylum system because it's a progressive marker. If you could close the border tight enough, you wouldn't have to face that the asylum system was broken. But 'sealing' the border is an illusion. You can't apprehend a crosser until they are in the US and as soon as they cross the line they can avoid being returned. That is where the bigger part of the problem has been for a long time now. And this doesn't even touch on the fact that small business owners (largely GOP) don't want stricter employment enforcement either. A dirty little economic secret is that the large number of undocumenteds in the workforce creates a constant downward pressure on entry level wages across the economy and that's just peachy with the Chamber of Commerce.
