It reminds me of something I read over the weekend. There was one of those personal finance tiktoks or reals debating a particular strategy over 30 years. The difference was alleged to be about $100K by the time you are 65. One of the commenters defended it as possible for people who "don't waste money on vacations and new cars". I'm thinking.... what's the whole point then? There's a balance between planning for the future and the unexpeted and actually living your life in the present. My kids are 24 and 21 and we've went on vacation every year since 2005. If I invested that it would be well into six figures. But at what cost? Would I be better off? I never understood this fascination with making wealth building an almost religious undertaking. I know too many people who have died under the age of 70 for that to be my focus. I'm also fortunate enough to have enough to be casual about these things and still have something waiting for me in 11 years. I understand that. But I'm not going to sweat decisions i've made in the past to provide my family with entertainment and experiences.5 points

At a party given by a billionaire on Shelter Island, the late Kurt Vonnegut informs his pal, the author Joseph Heller, that their host, a hedge fund manager, had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his wildly popular novel Catch 22 over its whole history. Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have . . . Enough.”4 points

Game 1 of a future Tiger legend Happy to see Malloy up. I predict that he will be such an offensive force they'll play him in center if need be. I'm just giddy today. Let's Go Tigers1 point

big and hard to play against are what they've been lacking from their forwards.1 point

Remember at the start of the season when JB said he wasn't setting any expectations for the season except that fans would be able to tune in to this team in February or March and see "Piston's basketball"? The man didn't lie.1 point

so the next step is a RHB uses a standard taper bat against RHP that is throwing him outside, and comes to the plate with a torpedo bat against LHP that's busting him inside....... If the torpedo works for many guys, we end up with an even more HR domintated game which I would hate to see happen. In truth, the more I read about aspects of the game that the increase in pitching velocity have affected, the more I lean toward toward just moving the mound back and deaden the ball a bit more. That gives the batter a few more milliseconds and make strike throwing just a tiny bit tougher for sharp breaking balls. Combined you get more contact without boosted HRs even more. Both those seem like good things to me.1 point

The debilitation of age sucks. I'm able now because of this softball organization I run get access to a Jugs machine that can feed me all the balls i would have loved to have hit when I was younger but because of this elbow thing or that back thing, its just not something where I can rip em like I would have done if I were in my 30s. I still love to be outside, coaching and running down fly balls with the girls but the arguments with my joints are louder and more one-sided.1 point

I used to run to prepare for races of which I've done about 750 in my life. Now, I don't race much because that kind of training beats up my body at my age. I now run mostly to be healthy and because I love being active outdoors. The good thing is I still like it now as much as I when I was racing every weekend. Maybe more so.1 point

I never thought I'd see a bigger asshole than Trump. Musk has pulled that off. Pretty impressive.1 point

Love the story of the The Righteous Brothers on this tune. First, the two of them flipped a coin over which of them would solo Unchained Melody. Imagine if Bobby Hatfield had lost! Then in the session Hatfield wanted to do another take, thought he could do better, Bill Medley told him - "No, you can't"1 point

True. I remember reading about one man, upon being asked how he felt about a colleague being so much richer than he was, who said: "I have something he will never have. I have enough." I really wish I knew who to credit...1 point

Ausar has a chance to become a fringe superstar. Think Donavan Mitchell or Jaylen Brown. He’s got a long way to go but the tools are there and still need to develop.1 point

The Pistons just became the first team in NBA history to triple their win total from the prior year. That is pretty wild especially since it wasn't due to adding a bunch of premium talent in the offseason like the Celtics did the year they got KG and Allen or Cavs adding Lebron and Kevin Love nor was it due to a generational draft pick like the Spurs getting Duncan(and a healthy Robinson back).1 point

A really fantastic season though by Michigan. Just an amazing season really considering they had 8 freaking wins last year. For Dusty May to have to go out and get an all new starting 5 in the transfer portal and to make the Sweet 16 with his team is a testament to the quality of coach he is. His guys really came together this season too and made a great run for never having played with one another at all prior to this season. Great job Michigan, it's been a fun ride this year.1 point

There shouldn't even be an argument, J.B. Bickerkstaff is Coach Of The Year. Sorry, OKC1 point

Jeez SB! I spun a couple back in the day but was always lucky. I never put a ding in that SS - to my parents everlasting surprise, and probably frustration. If I had it might have been their excuse to have me get rid of it! I never raced but I did seriously practice maneuvres, on dirt, in parking lots, etc., and especially on snow. I think we make such a big mistake not teaching people to how to handle a car under a little more duress. It saved me more than once.1 point

The Athletic had an article discussing post season awards. I noticed Donovan Mitchell #5 on the MVP list. Isn't Cade having a better season than Mitchell?1 point
