I give Harris credit for bringing the organization to a much better place. I don't know if they are the elite cutting edge organization some are making them out to be, but they have at least caught up to some of the more analytical organiztions. I don't really give Avila much credit. I just don't think that Harris has done anything extraordinary at the MLB level yet. I will give Harris full credit when he wins with the team totally crafted by him.2 points

I know I'm the resident optimist lately but I don't like the Lions odds today. The Rams seem to be a head above the field in a crowded NFC and the Lions haven't shown the ability to do it consistently. If they can get Stafford into some turnover trouble it will help a lot. But he usually plays at his best against the Lions. The offensive line will need to be at their best and the defensive line will need to get pressure, or it's probably going to be a 10-point deficit all afternoon.2 points

Since there are 60+ days left before Spring training, I am okay with where things stand now. Torres and Flaherty taking the QO filled two potential holes, and getting Finnegan back plus Jansen meant having a stronger end to the BP, at least potentially. Don’t know if Anderson is a positive addition, but some depth at least. If that’s it, I’ll be minorly disappointed. If they add any of the following: SP/LHP for the BP/RH bat for OF or left side of the IF -that would have me feeling better still, maybe even good.2 points

That was one of the best non-Pistons games I have seen in a few years. Wemby being back is obviously huge. In 21 minutes he had 22 pts and 9 boards and his +/- was +21. Just a great game to watch and enjoy2 points

How was that a catch let alone a touchdown1 point

How is that a touchdown? If he lost possession, it hit the ground and is incomplete. If he retained possession, he was down at the 1.1 point

I'm not even convinced he caught it, let alone it being a TD.1 point

that's an agent talking to a reporter saying "youre going to have to pay my client even more money to take a job in this situation." nothing more than posturing.1 point

Was a great game but the last 2 minutes of a close NBA game are just painful. Must have taken at least 15 minutes to play the last couple minutes last night. Takes all the excitement and intesity out of it. Compare that with the last few minutes of a close NFL game, even with timeouts.1 point

I don't see it as how much time is left before spring training. I look at it as what players have already come off the board and which player(s) are still available? Is there still a decent SP, better than one of our rotation arms? How about a RH bat? At which position?1 point

The Lions have a great chance to win this game. The biggest key to victory is to injure Stafford on the first series of the game.1 point

It's looking a lot like a clearance sale of week old bread at a local mom and pop bakery. I do not see much in quality.1 point

Good. I'm confident the youngsters will continue to improve but I would not complain if they added a number two starter or an impact bat.1 point

Another shutout win for the Wings, 4-0, as they wrap up a fine 4-1-1 road trip.1 point

Agreed. And in order to draft those guys, his team had to lose hundreds of games. Those were some very dark Tiger days. And I dont think folks were giving Avila "credit." Folks were just saying the players they got us into the playoffs the last couple of seasons were drafted during the dark Avila days.1 point

i remember when there was an argument that the pistons should have taken mobley over cade. i dont think anyone is making that argument any more.1 point

if it was straight up, then yes you make that trade every day if the week. but edvinsson, kasper/danielson, mbn and a #1 pick is too much. then your whole team is one line and one pair of defenders. everything else is trash and no way to grow out of it. hughes is good, but he's not bobby orr.1 point

Why are we still giving Avilla credit for drafting the guys almost everybody else would’ve drafted if they were in a similar draft order? That’s sort of like saying “I won the lottery so I’m better than you.”1 point

I just jumped on baseball reference and one of the featured player pictures was Chet Lemon. And then I think about head first dives into first base. And one handed fly ball catches just above the left shoulder. And a dirty jersey by the 4th inning. And that time on NBCs game of the week where he introduced the Tiger lineup and he had a nickname for everybody and “Redneck” was used 3 times. And, my, how far graphics have come since then. Ok, back to GM bickerbate.1 point

Avila had seven years. Let's see if Harris makes it to seven. It will be easier to compare then. So far, it's zero post seasons for Avila and two for Harris.1 point

I am pretty sure there are no Avila fans here. I think if we had a vote on who was the better GM, it would be at least 95% Harris. The only reason I won't say 100% is because I'm a statistician. I believe Harris would also win a vote over Dombrowski. What some people would like is a GM with Harris's brain and long-term commitment but with Dombrowki's boldness.1 point

I understand wanting to be “entertained.” When I want to be entertained alone I re-watch the first 15 minutes of Clint Eastwood‘s High Plains Drifter for the umpteenth time, which is incredibly exciting, and I skip past the rape scene because once was enough. Gilligan is not trying to merely “entertain.“ He instead wants you to be also seduced by the intriguing internal dramas the people in the show are experiencing, which are profound. I’m thinking he also wants to critique unreflective “group think” which we all get involved in.1 point
