  1. That's interesting. When I look at % of base runners to score on a batter's plate appearance, I see that Canha has scored 13.2% of his inherited base runners. Its below the league average of 14.4%, but better than the Tigers' 11.9% as a whole. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/DET/2024-batting.shtml But we can go with your 4 game sample if you prefer to pick nits.
  2. We were in Boston last summer. Saw the exterior of Cheers. There was a line to get in and I knew that the real inside wasn't like TV, so declined to check it out.
  3. Indeed. Hey also had a 3rd team all NBA selection while a Piston. The ending was brutal, but I can understand his frustration with getting kicked to a team that had gotten itself into a quagmire.
  4. That was a thing of beauty. And then he followed that up with a walk after falling down into an 0-2 count.
  5. I think that might be the thing to do right now. Add Carpenter in at 3rd, and then just figure it out from there. I guess Torkelson 4th because he did kick into last year and hopefully he finds that groove again. 5th through 9th, go ahead and play the matchups or least cold bats or however.
  6. Pena mentioned again being aggressive early to be walked more. I think the way he contexted it this time made more sense. Paraphrasing, but he essentially said its the long game. I think his inference is that a batter gets the reputation of swinging early, and pitchers are going to dance around the zone a bit more, try to get you to chase balls out of the zone, then it becomes more of a hitter's count, etc, etc. To me it just sounds like you have to be constantly evolving as a hitter, which is part of the competition. If pitchers try to get a hitter to chase early, lay off. If they pound the zone early, be ready to swing. Maybe I'm not reading his approach to correctly, but that's what I'm getting from it.
  7. Numerical proof, please.
  8. Yes, there's that, too.
  9. I'm sure Doc Rivers will guide the Bucks through Indiana like a hot knife through butter.
  10. Ain't like the kid bilked a bunch of folks out of their retirement, and yet Denny McLain is still revered by some.
  11. I'll bite. If Meadows needs more time in AAA, I'd call up Baddoo and platoon Perez and Vierling in CF for now. I think we know what Baddoo is, which probably doesn't cure the ill all that much for now. But if they think Meadows could tune something up in Toledo, I'd take that short term demotion for the long term gain. I would think the Tigers have that opinion as well and have not yet reached that line in the sand. Another week or two, and maybe they reach that line in the sand.
  12. Lorenzen's FIP for the outing was 4.63. 3 well times double plays helped foil the Tigers. I don't know for sure, but my guess is that run expectancy for those innings with runners at 2nd and one out would accumulate 2 runs. The Tigers ended up with 0. That's just baseball sometimes.
  13. That's a thought I had, too. Does Gores not want to fire Weaver himself for some reason? I guess I'm not sure that really is the angle, but who knows.
  14. Was Lorenzen effectively wild?
  15. 6 to 4 to 3 was fun to here during Tiger games in the 80s and mid 90s. Tonight? Not so much.
  16. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=b&team=DET&year=2024 Scroll down and there's a by inning summary.
  17. That is kind of interesting. Texas is probably throwing lefty Andrew Heaney on Thursday, so presumably he could have that day off. Or maybe that will be a day off for either Greene or Carpenter. They are in the middle of 14 games in 13 days, so it wouldn't be surprising to see position players get a day off during this stretch.

    MAP PR0N!

  19. I'm not sure what changes will matter unless one of them is the owner.
  20. Not a bad livin'.
  21. Here are Lorenzen's 3 starts on the year, all in AAA. Could be a good opportunity to jump into the bullpen early and soften it up for the later games of the series. Also, looks rainy for Wednesday. Doubleheader on Thursday? Guess who lines up well for a start as the 27th player? Can't make it up, it'd be Manning.
  22. I don't really care for it either. This might be a generational thing that I/we don't get.
  23. Boban Marjanovich, man of (and towering above) the people.
  24. I don’t recall exactly, but didn’t Urshela leave the game via a PR or PH? Pretty sure it wasn’t via defensive replacement.
