  1. Yes, @Edman brought up Hiura's contract elsewhere. I mentioned Meadows somewhere in that discussion (I think), but forgot about him in this scenario. He's got a good line in AAA right now, much better than Hiura. I guess another way to look at it is this: Greene and Perez have earned everyday status in the OF. Vierling has earned himself everyday work. Keith is probably everyday and Baez is going to play everyday on the IF. Ibanez is on the roster. The Cs are the Cs and kind of not a part of this. Urshela, McKinstry, and Baddoo are on the roster. What happens with Torkelson? That's probably the biggest domino after whatever is decided upon Canha's hip. And now that I think about Ibanez, he also has some experience at 1B. So, I had forgotten about that before, but it factors into the depth chart decisions.
  2. I want to be optimistic even though I don't know much about Langdon. But the problem is that I've seen enough with Gores to tamper that optimism way down.
  3. In his defense, he, along with the rest of the bullpen, had a good April followed by a bad May. Was there late movement on his pitches earlier in the season that isn't there now? SO9 still remain career highs, but that BABIP and SLG escalated something ridiculous. Here's another thing. 1 of 12 baserunners allowed in April scored. That's ballooned up to 15 of 25. Some of that is self inflicted with the increased SLG, but some of that could also fall back on the bullpen as a whole.
  4. I missed the game. Reading up, it sounds like this was a pregame lineup adjustment. Hinch mentioned seeing how things were today, so hopefully it was just a one off. I don't recall anything from Thursday's game, but who knows. Taking Carpenter and Canha out is too much for this lineup to bear. If the Tigers really wanted to evaluate young talent, I would think there is an opening for Malloy now. Carpenter's injury sounds ripe for a 60 day IL stint, so that would create an opening on the 40 for Malloy. I'm going with the assumption they're at 40, but I don't know that for sure. A Canha injury would also likely eliminate any thoughts of demoting Torkelson, if there were any of those thoughts to begin with. Urhsela played 1B last night, Vierling has some limited experience there, too. I get Torkelson has disappointed so far this season, but I'm not sure a Vierling/Urshela time share at 1B is what they'll opt for, particularly since they are much better gloves elsewhere.
  5. I think we can all agree I'm an idiot. But I'm thinking the words "spinal fracture" and "baseball swing" don't do well together. I think Baddoo can unpack his bags for a while. Hopefully his new mechanics yield well in the next few months. I don't know how the front office perceives his future beyond this season, but he's going to have the opportunity to show his wares for 29 other teams.
  6. What happens in sumo wrestling stays in sumo wrestling.
  7. Spare time? It’s probably the damn pizza spear.
  8. The difference of OBP less AVG is strikingly immense between the two.
  9. Does micro have an hitting idea?
  10. This thread is trending into a hoarding direction.
  11. Someone was whining to me about it at lunch. And I quote said person: "But we knew he was a crook!". I was ill prepared for a follow up, and so I raised me eyebrows and let the silence take over to allow that comment to sort of try to seep in.
  12. Bring back the air raid sirens from Tiger Stadium circa mid 90s.
  13. I think the logo was an Mike Ilitch thing. I think that was right after rehiring Harwell. I know most people think Ilitch's ownership started in 2006, but he actually owned the club for a while before that.
  14. Just going to put this here for the religious right. Of note, a few of the 10 have been broken directly, and a few have been broken indirectly.
  15. Flip down glasses! You see those, kids? That's when baseball was baseball. Trammell, what in the world are you doing with the glasses on your hat?
  16. I am not going out on a limb by predicting that there will be a track called 34 on the next album. Hell, there may be a single dropped this weekend.
  17. Baddoo was ill equipped for it. Jabbing at the ball twice. Poor form. I don't mind it idea of it there with a lefty on lefty and with Baddoo's speed. But the skill was absolutely lacking there.
  18. OK, so it kind of shows a similar deal, 2.2 WAR in his rookie season followed by 0.5, -0.8, 0.6. None were over full time playing status (asterisk on the 0.5 in 59 games of the COVID 2020). I don't know. At this point I guess I would look at it more about getting Torkelson straightened out for the long term rather than picking up any contribution from Hiura short term. If the Tigers think he needs to work away at it in MLB, so be it. My worthless opinion is that it's more mental than physical, not attacking on hittable pitches. I wouldn't worry about losing Hiura to an upward mobility clause. If he thinks he is in a position to exercise it, than good luck to him. If the Tigers do feel Torkelson needs a reset, that's fine. But I wouldn't necessarily hand 1B over to Hiura in the meantime. Edit: After I say I wouldn't hand 1B over to Hiura, I realize I'm not sure what the other options are. Maybe a combination of Canha/Vierling. But with Carpenter out, I don't how that works for the OF. I suppose a recall of Meadows? Not sure, maybe it just does default to Hiura.
  19. They probably played Seven O'Clock from Gigaton as well. That's definitely directed at Trump.
  20. Not sure what WAR you’re looking at, but I see 1.4 on bbref. 1.9 of that was in 2019. Additionally, he’s at a stout .730ish OPS in AAA this season. I don’t think the reward of promoting him is all that it was cracked up to be.
  21. I read Bless You Boys by Sparky in grade school for a book report.
  22. Remember the clamoring for Hiura to get called up? Good times.
  23. I’d completely forgotten about him.
