  1. Atlanta had 10 pitchers start at least 5 games this season. Texas and Philadelphia had 8. We are well rehearsed with what Detroit went through. MLB teams simply need that SP depth in AAA. That's just where we are at with the game now. Hurter just turned 25 and has 28 starts in AA. If he's still in the organization, he's probably looking at AAA to begin 2024. At 25 already, the clock is probably ticking. Flores is due to be added to the 40 and he has 37 starts in AA. There may have been some disappointment with him last season, but I'd have to think he'll also be in Toledo at some point next season. Ideally, Harris acquires enough SP where Gipson-Long is in Toledo to start the season. This would assume Mize is healthy enough to start in Detroit, they have Manning in the rotation and/or replaced him with a viable SP, and Olson is at the end of the Detroit rotation. They're probably going to need to acquire another project/prospect to stash in AA/AAA as well. I have no idea what becomes of Turnbull.
  2. I just avoid the pre and post game shows. But along the lines of the broadcasts, is it just me or does the return from commercial to live action seem to be much tighter now than before? There used to be, I don't know, 20 or 30 seconds of live shot and conversation filler from the broadcast team before the first pitch of the half inning. It seems to me like a lot of returns right into the first pitch this postseason.
  3. Well, I think those priorities are backwards, but that’s just my opinion.
  4. Oh, geez, it is a 7 game binge, not 6. I forgot the first round was a series, not just a game.
  5. 9/9 and 116. I don’t think I recall a grid where all 6 franchises are from among the original 16.
  6. Y’all saw that playoff stat that was flashed about Bochy? His teams have won 13 series in which they’ve won game one. They ain’t been eliminated in any series after winning game one. We can debate and opine and question and theorize all we want about which teams are better than the other and by how much and what that should mean. But can’t no one deny the heater that Texas is on. A six game winning streak is pretty impressive in the regular season. But in the playoffs? Gadzooks.
  7. Based on my own research, I can concur.
  8. I could be wrong, but he seems to be on the older side of a career timeline. I don’t know if he was a late bloomer, or made his professional debut on the older side, or both.
  9. This is probably true. It’s probably one of those uncomfortable situations where the two sides need each other in order for both sides to find a best case mutuality beneficial outcome. In other words, Turnbull is healthy, the Tigers pitch him, he posts stats, and a trade is made after his value is increased. But both sides are going to have to grit teeth, tolerate the other, and just push aside whatever acrimony exists to get there.
  10. I don’t understand scheduling back to back games in the preseason. Yet, that’s what the Pistons have for it’s final two games.
  11. Maybe he gets traded for another player in a comparable situation? I don’t know who that would be nor if there is a comparison to begin with. Maybe he is used as a throw in for a bat? It seems like they should add a proven bat with some sort of multi season control at either 2B or 3B. Or maybe even SS and push Baez to 2B, although that seems tough to see happening. I know there’s a lot of thought that Keith and Jung can be assigned to 2B / 3B one way or another and it’ll be fine going forward. While there’s talk about pitching being a strength, maybe LHH hitting IFs with questionable defensive assignments are a surplus to deal from? Maybe it makes sense to move one for a more defensive IF without punting on offense?
  12. The more a league is broken down into smaller subunits, the higher the chances are for a poor team to “win” a division. 4 team divisions would inevitably lead to a team in the playoffs with a losing record. Some losing record team would win the division. And then MLB would further the mockery by seeding that team 4th rather than last in the bracket. There have been NFL teams that win a division at 7-9 and bump better records from the playoffs. Heck, the Texas Rangers were leading the AL West at 52-62 when MLB shut down for the strike. The only AL teams with records worse than them were all from the AL West. The Baltimore Orioles were 63-49, but would have been bumped from the playoffs for Texas.
  13. Hold on, is this a prediction or a guess? I would hate to get you in a tizzy by misquoting you.
  14. So, given those storylines, what to do with Malloy?
  15. Is there some truth to this? That's the number I kind of use as a barometer when looking at records and "tiering" teams.
  16. I think it turned gray because of all the gray matter activity going on underneath of it. You think that thing is bad, you ought to see my yard work hat. I think I've had thing since before Y2K.
  17. I'd go one further. 1 league of 4 geographical divisions with 8 teams each when they expand. And then the playoff bracket is lined up 1 through 12 (or 16 is probably inevitable) according to winning percentage. So this offseason would have been Atlanta at 1, Baltimore at 2, Los Angeles at 3, Tampa at 4, etc, etc.
  18. I think it was time for a new hat.
  19. One bad year and one good year is much better than the return on Baez.
  20. He’s droppin’ knowledge, yo.
  21. I don’t think anyone expected any team to sign 2 of the 6 available and more sought after SSs that offseason (counting Semien as a SS). Not only did the Rangers land 2, but without looking to confirm, I’d suspect they’ve provided the best returns so far.
  22. Oh for crying out loud….. Why would we guess what happened before will happen again?
  23. Why should it be assumed that what occurred under a different owner & GM/president would occur again now with the current owner & president?
  24. They can kick the tires on Soto now, but he's a free agent after next season. I know in theory they could lock him up before next offseason, but he's a Boras client, so that seems unlikely.
