  1. That seemed curious to me. Maybe its my bias, and fruit TV mentioned tagging McKinstry's finger on the swipe, but I'm not sure that he was tagged in time. I suppose they figured it was questionable enough and too early in the game to lose a challenge.
  2. The inability to convert in the 2nd then the subsequent two runs allowed in the 3rd really sunk last night. OK, that's done and in the books. Take the Saturday and Sunday games and yank the series from them.
  3. The relief pitching seems to have done an about face from the previous regimes. But you might be right as far as starting pitching is concerned. I may have been thinking more about the relief pitching.
  4. Everything had never been done until it was finally done the first time.
  5. I agree that this is the priority. The team is below .500 and only 5 games out, but the emphasis should be losing record. The only reason playoffs are a consideration is that the division is rotten. I agree that threading the needle on accomplishing that and dealing to compete now is an awfully tough and unlikely task. The only trade that I can think of that might be similar is dealing away Granderson and JacksonE for Schezer, JacksonA, Coke, and Schlereth. But that deal isn't exactly comparable because Granderson and JacksonE were still under contract while the players that the Tigers need to trade are going to be free agents. But I'm interested to see what Harris does. I expect Rodriguez and Lorenzen to be traded. The return has to include youth. But can he accomplish anything else without compromising the farm system? I would guesstimate the odds of threading the needle are lower than the playoff odds.

  7. Its going to be somewhat of an evaluation difference between the participating clubs and/or a position player is blocked on the other team's depth chart. I know that really narrows the scope of who the Tigers could deal with from a return standpoint. Who knows, it might not be anything more than a remote possibility. And to splice it even more, that might be relevant more so to Rodriguez who has more playoff experience than Lorenzen. Sure, in either event its going to be a rental pitcher. But will a team place a premium on Rodriguez being a bit more of a known quantity and having playoff experience? Maybe not, but maybe a GM/owner decides its worth a little extra something.
  8. I wonder what the baseball insider perception of Tiger pitching is, specifically related to development and deployment at the higher levels. It ranks pretty well on here, but we're biased.
  9. He's dingled up, isn't he?
  10. The cameraman getting the facial close up at the end is a nice touch.
  11. I think another way to look at it is what is the division winner win total and what would it take for the Tigers to surpass it? Fangraphs has Minnesota at 83.5 wins. Detroit is 44-52. 84 wins would require finishing out at 40-26, a .606 winning percentage. Is it possible for the Tigers to upgrade themselves enough to that kind of team? Kind of seems doubtful to me. Can they "buy" controllable players that could impact this season without compromising the farm system? I think it'd be quite the balancing act to do. The lineup is just awful, so any kind of move would seem to improve it at a few different positions. Will the pitching backfill for guys traded be sufficient enough as well? Seems a daunting task.
  12. Exactly. Everyone should be available for the right price. Its just the price for a players are going to be much more expensive than other players.
  13. Well, see, there's that qualifier. It ain't exactly a good farm system to deal from, is it? That aside, I agree with you, the Tigers (or any team) don't need to be completely on one side of the aisle or the other. I just think the focus will be on trading Rodriguez and Lorenzen for prospects. And maybe they can move Cisnero and Shreve, too.
  14. Candelario’s season is better than the Tigers have at their disposal for 3B. They could look to upgrade at 2B, OF, and C as well. I doubt that Harris buys, and if he does, it’s going to be a tough needle to thread while simultaneously selling. They’re in an odd spot where they are theoretically in a division race and that’s it. There’s no chance to fall back on a wild card spot. And there’s also the fact that they themselves have been a losing record team all season long.
  15. I wonder what Washington would want for Candelario? Yes, I’m serious.
  16. It would almost certainly have to involve trading the pitching rotation duo for a combination of major league ready rotation arms and major league ready bats. A buy & sell. Or perhaps they backfill the arms by floating prospects like Malloy or MeadowsP for a starting pitcher?

  18. I think we need to be cognizant of scouts perusing these pages to gain info on the trade bait. I'd suggest we refer to these fellows as World Series Champion Rodriguez and All Star Lorenzen in an attempt to drive up the prices.
  19. Sorry, he did not opt out.
  20. I'm guessing. I usually watch on TV and have not caught many games with Scales. I think Maybin is a little more higher pitched and definitely more Georgia accent than Scales.
  21. The Tigers have never really had a good defensive OF since moving into Commercial Park. One would think that would be a priority, but it hasn't been. Maybe after 20some previous years and 3 previous GMs it can be something to look at?
  22. I don't think its Maybin on the call with Dickerson. Isn't it Bobby Scales?
  23. Sure. And Jones would be the first to admit that Lange probably has more speed and stuff, too. What was his line? He tried to get to 3 outs before the opposition realized he didn't have all that much?
