  1. Well, he's 25 already. Hey was quite the talk of the town a few seasons ago, wasn't he? I can understand keeping him in Toledo to play him everyday, but at the same time, what are they doing with Nevin and Schoop? Seriously, what are they waiting for on sending Schoop packing? And at some point they've got to figure out if he's an MLB player. I suppose even if they do promote Kreidler, that doesn't mean he's going to be playing much. Baez is the SS. McKinstry is one of the better bats right now (a sentence typed never before now) and Maton is at least getting on base and has some power when he does hit. So there aren't many PAs available right now for Kreidler aside from a platoon arrangement. I guess even at that, he does offer better defensive versatility then either Nevin or Schoop, so there's that.
  2. Yes, I mentioned it before, they are essentially playing with a 25 man roster and Cabrera. Cabrera isn't going anywhere this season, we all understand that. And so when the lineup struggles, when players don't meet reasonable expectations, the rostering of Cabrera and his free fallen skills magnifies. @gehringer_2 teased something like this elsewhere. What do the Tigers do if they find themselves around a playoff race around the deadline and teams call on Rodriguez? But what do the Tigers do if somehow or another that playoff situation presents itself, the lineup has figured out how to score runs, but Cabrera is clearly the weak link? They've pretty much got to shut him down, don't they?
  3. They've played 24 games so far. Cabrera has started as DH 13 times, 3 of those hitting 6ht and 10 of those hitting 7th. He's pinch hit once, that game winning single up the middle against a drawn in San Francisco infield. My guess is that this is going to be pretty much the kind of usage that we see out of him. He'll play roughly half of the games, DHing, hitting 6th or 7th. Maybe it changes a bit if/when Schoop leaves and/or Meadows returns (which would probably push Carpenter/Meadows to DH more). Its entirely possible that the walk off single vs San Francisco is his peak moment of this season. I suppose he might hit a home run or two. But as far as a game impact like vs the Giants, we're probably not going to see anything like that again from him.

  5. The only way to get Malloy to strike out more than 3 times in a day is to play a doubleheader.
  6. Malloy is human after all?
  7. Damn near half of his life spent on the sidelines with the Miami Heat. That's flippin' incredible these days. I didn't realize how long he was an assistant, although I knew he worked his way up the Miami ladder to the head chair.
  8. Positivity from buddha? Is this a delayed April Fool's Day post?

  10. OK, they're going with the come from behind victory on the way out of town approach today. I see you, Tigers, I see you.
  11. McKinstry is leading off. I mean, come on, let's just get this over with as quickly as possible. Grab the sweep, the beer, the cheese curds, the bratwursts, and head back to Detroit. This series will go down in history as where Milwaukee lost its 2023 playoff bid.
  12. Keeping innings in reserve for later on if/when they need to call folks up. Yes, that's a good theory and I thought that might have been where you were going. I don't think we've seen it as a planned outing yet this season, but they might also be keeping things lined up for bullpen games, too. Maybe instead of calling up a "SP", they'll go with a piggy back of multi inning RPs to try to get through 5 or 6. I know Skubal's return has been mentioned as well. I know he didn't have TJ, but my completely amateurish opinion is that its best to subscribe to the TJ recovery theory with him, at least early on when he comes back until he proves otherwise. We're kind of seeing that a bit with Turnbull right now, too. The combination of strength, stamina, and accuracy just seems to take a bit to regain.
  13. It was weird on Opening Day. The SP only tossed a few innings and then he was serving beers in the 5th & 6th innings. His pouring was clean in the 5th, but a bit scattershot after his beer count got elevated.
  14. You kind of lost me there. What do you think the organizational directive could be?
  15. SP depth for this season concerns me. I have not looked at Toledo's stats lately, but they didn't have a SP get into the 5th for what seemed like the first dozen games. For all of the accolades that the BP has earned lately, I think that lack of SP is going to bite the BP (and the Tigers). The multi inning relief appearances are going to be key to the survival of the pitching this season.
  16. Its funny you mention this. I noticed this on bbref the other day: The red is much more noticeable in frequency and depth than the green.
  17. That's true. But I think there's legit reason to still be optimistic about his future. If he were hitting for weaker contact throughout his MLB play, I think that'd be cause for more concern.
  18. Health code? In the land of brats, cheese curds, and beers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
  19. And inevitably a RHP will enter the game at some point. Dropping him lower in the lineup, maybe he only sees 2 PAs vs a LHSP and then its on to RHRPs.

  21. That is kind of encouraging. However, since the Tigers are pretty much dead last to begin with, even if they do get to where they should be, it’s going to be a rough season with the sticks.
  22. A little slow on the keyboard tonight? 😆
  23. If he hits like that, he will be hitting higher than 8th before this season is over.
  24. This is a pretty good point. Even if his wing is 100% healthy, is it ready to endure catching 2 out of 3 games per week at this point?
  25. It was an ugly bunt attempt, but it worked. So good on him for taking advantage of the opportunity. And when is the last time a cleanup hitter bunted? We may have been watching history there.
