  1. There's something to be said for consistency?

  3. I don't know how much stock to put into numbers yet, at least as far as individual players are concerned. They're still only, what, 20 games into the season. As Vierling was mentioned, I see he has only 20 PAs vs LHPs. So, small sample size? Something that should correct itself over time? Maton was another hitter I glanced at this morning. BABIP is killing him. Hard hit % looks reasonable, but his LD% looks extremely low and his FB% looks pretty high (I think going off of memory). He's still drawing walks, so, do they just wait out the BABIP or do the LD%/FB% ratios suggest something needs to change? Again, only 20 games in. Now one of the numbers that is frightening is Greene's propensity for SOs. HIs swing path/length has been mentioned around here a bit. I'm not sure that's necessarily a small sample thing unless they are actively working on something right now. And, of course, the team wide slump is concerning as a whole.
  4. I think another thing is that Baltimore is trying to make the playoffs for the first time in who knows how long. So, yeah, shame on them for trying to win a ballgame that was highly in doubt? Come on....
  5. Looks like they might still be on track for Bert's 6 runs for the road trip.
  6. These are terrible posts. McKenna is trying to win a game, a 0-0 game at that point. The guy saw an opportunity to try to get on base to set up his team to win the game. How can he be faulted for that? Would you also blame a hitter for taking a borderline 3-2 pitch with a perfect game on the line?

  8. They score about as often as a hockey team. About, what, 10 times per week? So if you look at it from that angle, it makes sense.

  10. Well, I think it remains to be seen if they can field elsewhere. I still stick to my theory on Malloy in the OF. His bat, at least per the numbers, is ready for MLB debut. I don't know about the glove at 3B. If they have not yet used him in the OF, I don't think I see it in MLB. It would seem like malpractice to keep him at 3B and then promote him to MLB and have Hinch pencil him in to OF duty. It looks like Keith has also been used exclusively at 3B so this short season. 11 games at 3B and 1 at DH. 2/3 of his 2022 time was at 3B and 1/3 of it was at 2B.
  11. Hmmmm...., the suite angle could be an interesting point and difference for this particular stadium from the rest of MLB.
  12. Ultimately right now the Tigers just need to acquire & develop talent regardless of position. From there, if/when they have enough quality & depth overall, they can figure out a way to piece together a team from the necessary parts & pieces.
  13. Just to add to it, I like versatility defensively (and offensively). If Malloy can handle OF and 3B, I'm all for it. If Keith can handle positions other than 3B, I'm all for that, too. But if both are destined for 3B, that's fine. Keep one and trade the other to solve other needs. That could work out for the Tigers as well.
  14. Isn't it the "convention capital of the world" or something like that? I know my wife was there for some education conference last year. I would have tagged along if it weren't for having our own kids that still needed tending to. And along with all of the current activities that conventions/corporations have at their disposal already in and around LV, baseball just becomes another entertainment option. Its just kind of funny how suddenly gambling has turned into an asset for sports when before it was either considered good but don't dare speak of it that way or the worst crime against sporting humanity. I guess all it took was to figure out how to profit from it and, voila, sports leagues and gambling become two peas in a pod.
  15. I don't know if the Tigers see Malloy in the OF. He has not been used there once yet at Toledo. 13 games at 3B and 4 at DH. Lipcius and Nevin had a pair of games at 3B and have also played corner OF (as well as other spots) in Toledo. I would think that if the Tigers considered Malloy for the OF in the short term, he'd have had at least one or two games there so far this season. Why would they not use him there after playing there last season? It would seem like they would want to build on those skill sets from last season and not let them rust from inaction.
  16. I had forgotten he was still around. Then I look at his age and see he will be turning 34 in June. Career to date earnings of around $52M. Has a nice assortment of authentic game worn jerseys to display. A World Series ring. Not bad.
  17. I wouldn't think his stance would affect the strike zone more than another player. My guess is that the width is the width for umpires (and granted, there are differences from ump to ump on the borders), and height might be variable by batting stance. I don't think Torkelson has such an out of the ordinary stance that his strike zone is affected by it. I do wonder if his approach affects him. I think I've seen/heard enough critique about him that he's too passive early in the count. Maybe that sets up his strike zone as too narrow to begin with, I don't know. And then, I guess, how accurate is the strike zone box that we see on TV? I'd imagine its pretty close, but some straight in camera angles are slightly different than others. And those slight camera angles might not be reflected precisely with that box.
  18. MLB's headline was amusing.
  19. Vegas is primarily based on gambling, sure. But there's also plenty of other entertainment out there. Baseball just becomes another option for folks.
  20. Cisnero isn't an MLB quality pitcher. Its tough to be upset about him tossing up a meatball when he shouldn't be on a roster. Relief pitching gave up the tie twice. But its tough to blame pitching for giving up only two runs. The balls & strikes were questioned above. It seemed to me that the zone was a bit wider to the outside than what the Tigers thought it was. My worthless opinion is they were giving away too many borderline pitches when last night wasn't the night to do that.
  21. I like the way he was handled. He's probably still catching up in SP stamina. I don't like solo inning reliever appearances beginning in the 6th inning. It seems like that's where Alexander or Englert should be in there to get through the lineup once.

  23. Arguing over whether Avila or Smith was worse than the other seems like trying to decide whether to be poked in the eyes or kicked in the plums.
  24. That's understandable. For what its worth, I was listening to the Locked on Tigers podcast today and coincidentally it was mentioned that the cutoff date for that is sometime in May. There will be more intel on Malloy's defense. By then Schoop will either be trade bait or not. Nevin/McKinstry can be moved down to Toledo. So who knows, if Malloy is still blistering the ball by then, he might force the hand of the Tigers anyway.
  25. I think it would interesting to see numbers of home/road/neutral fans attending Golden Knights games. It'd be really crude and highly unscientific, but maybe base it off of zip codes of final ticket purchaser. Compare those %s to same data of other NHL teams. Maybe it tells a story, maybe it doesn't, maybe it isn't a reliable test at all. But its numbers and I'd like to see what they are our of curiousness.
